I have drove with points on my licence for around 23 years, It seemed every time they were due to be clear i would get another 3 points but for some strange reason i have had a clean licence now for around 8 years and my driving hasnt changed. Cant beat having a tomtom on all the time :)

Just found out I was doing 36mph in a 30 limit. Oh well, I might be offered a speed awareness course then?
I got caught by a van, 39 in a 30 :(. I saw the van and thought it was a 40mph zone so slowed down a bit.

Anyway I got offered the course so there is a fair chance you might. Wasn't the most fun 4 hours of my life but it saved 3 points from going on my license and some parts on the course are actually quite informative.

Do the speed awareness course Richard, it costs a bit more but you don't get points or a record.Mike
I did the awareness course, I thought I knew it all until I went there, an interesting day
On the early awareness courses they took you out for a drive, my friend
said it was like an advanced driving course, he leant a lot, he drove a Subaru ?

In their wisdom (read greed) the South Australian police force installed speed cameras with the traffic light cameras. So now where I once would speed up a little if the lights turned to amber I now slam on my brakes immediately. No doubt this has increased business enormously for crash repairers fixing tailend collision damage. Japan is generally much more sensible, preferring to maintain traffic flow and discourage people from being over touchy about red lights. The speed limits are basically advisory signs here until you get to more than 30 km/h over the limit. On the highways, more like 40 - 50 over.

@Craig I got confused a few years back because I got a ticket from a red light camera on a motorway junction.

The wording on the ticket said that the light had been red for 0 (zero) seconds, but my speed was 36mph. I though they only did red light jumping, not speed as well :bashhead:

Some of these things, road angel etc are illegal to the best of my knowledge btu if they get drivers to slow down to the limit surely that has to be a good thing? I have a Mio sat nav that does the same thing. unfortunately the inbuilt one in my Touareg doesn't which is a shame. When we were a LOT younger there were 7 of us going down the A1 from Doncaster in my brothers Mk 1 Cortina doing 70 ish when a police Triumph 2.5 pi pulled along side and the guy in the left seat smiled, shook his head and they left us to it. Those WERE the days.
