I was going to repair my sills but got a price for new ones today at £95 each........no brainer I think.......2 sills ordered
I’ve just watched a video on here about repairing the sills area and commented on it so it’s high up on the order of commented threads if you want to scroll to find it.

Would there be a demand for GRP sills? They probably wouldn't be any cheaper but guaranteed not to rust.

I don't see the point in grp sills as the originals have lasted 20 years and well prepped new ones will last even longer

To my knowledge never have been. A member on here was talking about producing some a few years ago but as far as I'm aware it didn't come to anything.

Tony.

Yes Tony, I think I recall reading a thread awhile ago to do with an overseas manufacturer (not BMW) making plastic sills.

Good post. Mine has just passed its MOT without advisories but whilst up on the ramps myself and the MOT guy (who MOT's all my old bangers :-D) noted the rusty sills. Nearside looks to only be a single small bubble but oddly the offside is somewhat worse. Not showing through but big bubbles. Front of the rear arches as OP posted.

Annoying as I thought it was pretty much rot free.

£95 sounds cheap

I have a feeling there may have been a recent price increase on the sill covers. Online I'm seeing £175-£185 where it used to be £135 ish.

I need one myself so I'm just checking with the local dealer.

Not so good. I'm going to remove my bad one first and assess. I know a good welder so if that is the best option then so be it.

Current price with discount at Cotswold BMW (Cheltenham) is £137.65 including delivery. Lead time of only 2-3 days.

Possibly a little cheaper elsewhere but personally I prefer dealing with them - Ross, helpful chap unlike many BMW parts desks. rosshands@cotswoldgroup.com.
