Advice needed on tyre damage

My F1's finally came off the car last year after being on it for about 8 years and that included a few track days where they were bubbling. they didn't split, i don't think i have ever see any tyres split like that that have come off any of my cars over the years. all seems a bit odd

Thanks Tony that would be most appreciated.
Ian no I'm sure he deflated the tyres first as there was no loud bang when popping it off the rim.
Hi Liam, I asked around at work today and the main thing that we all commented on was how high up the tyre sidewall that the tear is which indicates to us that the fitter had the tyre compressor way too high up the sidewall whereas it should be placed only just clear of the wheel rim itself. This is where the tyre is strengthened to hold onto the bead rim and also where you should push it from the the bead. Overall we think the fitter or the company should replace your tyres or at the very least compensate you for their value as they were part worn. Hope this helps, regards, Tony.

Interesting you say that Tony as it was going through my mind last night that the position of the tyre compressor on the sidewall may have a bearing but thought nah surely they couldn't get that wrong.!

Me too Ian but when you look at the first photo the tear is only just below the edge of the tread! There is no way the bead separator should be anywhere near the tread edge.

Well it's been resolved today.
The tyres were inspected and the conclusion was said to be because of what tony has mentioned. The bead breaker was set to high because I had asked to be very carful of the wheels.

After a good chat a deal was agreed to pay for one new tyre each at trade price. Due to my tyres being 5 years old and partly worn they wouldn't agree to pay for two new tyres.

They also didn't charge me anything for the tyre swopping. ( I wouldn't had payed it if they did ) So in the end its cost me about £100 for two new contact sports fitted and the rear tyres fitted to my new wheels.
The tyres should be around 140 each so it's not a bad deal really.

First thing you must do Liam is to put your complaint in writing and state your opinion that you hold them responsible after all the tyre was full of air when they removed them, that
wouldn't have been the case if that rip was there beforehand!! They do have the right to a second opinion but in the interest of good customer relations they should sort this out for
you without all this fuss.

Glad you've got it sorted out Liam, all in all I think that's a fair settlement. Cheers, Tony.

Good stuff Liam so glad you sorted it out amicably. Question is though will you ever go back there ;)

To be honest I would because I think that you have a good relationship now to build on. I guess only time will tell . We all live and learn methinks:)

They wouldn't dare slip up again :D

Thanks for the help and advice everyone. I'm glad they finally came around and I'm happy with the deal.

Thanks for asking at work Tony was much appreciated. :)

I would use them again as I've dealt with them a lot in the past with no problems. There a tuning company not just a tyre dealer.
They have said because of this incident they will stop dealing with tyre swopping and part worn tyre fitment. I'm not surprised!

I obviously wouldn't have any tyres fitted there again! ;)

Looking good.

Looks good Liam - glad you got it sorted.
