Addenbrookes Hospital

Hi Dave , it’s lovely to hear from you , I hope both you and Jue are well, how are you getting on with your house .
Yes it’s been a horrific last few weeks, Addenbrookes didn’t think Alan would make it , the staff in ICU were brilliant, I stayed in the emergency accommodation, for the time Alan was in hospital.
But Alan is doing very well, it’s lovely to have him back home , it is hard work looking after someone, but I don’t mind , hopefully Alan will make a full recovery in time .
He‘s got to have plates on the right side of his skull as it has all been broken and shattered, also they think he has lost his sight in his eye , he’s very weak and lots a lot of weight, but it’s very early days .
He’s still on morphine as he’s in a lot of pain , but he’s been very lucky .
Its baby steps at the moment, but we will get their .
Take care 🤩
Wishing you all the best and fast recovery ❤️

We're good thanks. We are too looking after people. We are full time carers for my Mum and Dad who both have Dementia, your right when you say it's hard work!
We wish you every luck in Alan making a fulll recovery. But as I have said, you must make "you time". It must be incredibly stressful seeing Alan as he is and tiring.
Have the best Christmas you can x

Thank you Dave and Jue , wishing you all a lovely Christmas too 🌞
I hope you and Jue make time for yourselfs too 😊
I won’t go out and leave Alan even though he says he will be ok 😳
I‘d never forgive myself if something happened to him 🥲
Take care both of you 😊

Hi Shelly it’s the first time for me to see this and our best wishes go to you and Allan ,I can only imagine how hard it’s been for you ,take care lovely and I’m sure you’re the one to get Allan up and about as soon as possible.xx

Thank you Hugh 🤩
Alan had his pins taken out of his foot today , so we’re one step closer to normality 🌞
Still a long way to go but we will get their 🌞
Ive just ordered Alan a bump cap , hopefully he will wear it until he has the plates put in his head 🙂

Thank you 🙂
I went through a similar incident 2 years ago, accident at work, week in a coma, weeks in icu and a long recovery. As bad as it was for me it was terrible for Ashley, having to travel hundreds of miles not knowing if i was going to make it and seeing me in hospital in a right state. It takes real strength from both of you to get through it and im sure you will with the support of each other and the hospital.

Hope your fully recovered now 👍
Yes it is hard , but we will look back on this in a few months / years and then realise how strong we were to get through this 🌞

How are things looking for yourself and Alan for the Christmas period Shelly?

We’re having our children over on Christmas Day , but Alan will be in bed for some of the day as he’s sleeping a lot. We’re meant to be out Boxing Day but we’re staying home as we can’t chance anything happening to Alan as one little knock and it could be fatal .😞
Were just so lucky to still have him with us , everyone has been so supportive 🌞
Alan has got a appointment on the 28th at addenbrookes, I just hope he’s strong enough to go this time .👍
Hope you have a lovely day 🙂
Take care 😀

Really hope Christmas goes well Shelly, you’ve been through it and your strength is remarkable.

Merry Christmas to you, Alan and your family.

Thank you , sometimes I feel like I’m sinking 🌞
But then I think , we will get their 🌞
I don’t feel strong, but lots of people say how strong I’ve been 🙂
For the last 6 weeks all I’ve seen is the hospital wards or our house walls 😳
But I wouldn’t have it any other way as long as Alan gets better, which he will .👍
Hope you and your family have a great Christmas too

🤶

I can only echo the sentiments of the other members Shelly, it is amazing how we cope with things like this, we just do, somehow. Most of our family tragedies have occurred around Christmas time. Worst of all losing our little girl 3 weeks before Christmas in 1994 but we got through it.
Don't forget to take care of yourself too, Alan needs you at your best. Have the best Christmas that you can.

Tony.

I just can’t imagine what you and Shirl went through with your little girl …..
Im just lost for words ……
I lost my sister 13 years ago on the 10th December she was only 40 with 3 young children, she used to do 25 miles a day on her bike , but that day she never came home …..
A car went into her in a 30 limit and the person was doing 60 ……..
December is a sad month for us ……
Hope you can try to have a good Christmas Tony
Take care x

Hi Shelly. I've been away from Z roadster for a while , but was so shocked and sorry to hear about Alan this evening. My son suffered a similar accident at work. A faulty spring compressor broke and the spring caught him full in the face. He was lucky though, he only lost some teeth and his nose was badly broken. Our very best wishes to you and Alan.
Bonzo ( Allan) and Chris.

Thank you Allan 🌞
Alan was a very lucky person 🙂
We talk about his accident a lot saying if he was this way or that way , he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time , but if he was say a millimetre this way or that it could of been fatal or just missed him , but it’s just hindsight isn’t it 😞
Alan is a strong person and is doing well , the consultants can’t believe how far he has come in such a small space of time , considering he wasn’t meant to make it 🙂
We’re so lucky to still have him here with us 🙂🙂

Again, I'm sorry to hear this, life can be very difficult sometimes. I wish you all the best Shelly and Allan. It's been so long since I have seen you all.
