Accident Waiting To Happen

I've seen them in much worse condition than this fixed. Fingers crossed for you Mike that you can sort out the parts and get it reassembled again.

It's a shame you are LHD as I have a spare set of RHD head lights in my shed :bashhead:

Hi Brian, couldn't we also bring a bottle? And maybe a can opener for parts removal? Would be a trip I'd look at making, for sure! Love them Dutch Girls and they love us liberating Canadians. What's that dear??

And then the fighting started!!

Get the insurance company to agree to use second-hand parts to reduce the cost, that should bring things back in line. Unless of course you would rather have a new car.

If you ship it over here, I'll try and get it done for less. I know a chap who is very reasonable.

Mike

As I said earlier our insurance was persuaded that I should use my own garage and that second had parts could be used. If you know someone local to you to take the car to you could get a second estimate from them but explain that you can source the parts separately and see what they quote.
Bonnet, slam panel, headlights, radiator, maybe front bumper as some of the clips may be broken. The inner wings could be straightened.

What will they give you in payout and what will a replacement cost?

Hope you get sorted on way or another Mike.

Cheers Brian, have been working along the lines of your suggestions today.

get stuck in Mike and get it fixed..good luck pal

Hi Mike,

It has been some weeks already.
How is it going with the insurance company?
Will it be ok?

Regards,
Koen

Funny, I was just sitting here wondering the same thing. Last I heard HT was contacting you to see what you could assist with. Maybe we'll get a response if he can pull himself away from the football games. JIM

Hi Koen, Jim,

Double-edged sword at the moment I am afraid.
Insurance company paid out, I did not ask them to and only found out when I received the letter from them stating that they had transferred money into the accounts of myself and the owner of the other car involved.
The Z is damaged goods, what do you do?
The sum of the parts is greater than.....and you all know the rest.

Could be, amongst other parts, a hardtop and fitting kit up for grabs.

Bad news Mike. Would not be a happy time, breaking your own car.:(

If they have paid out Mike how does it work over there. In the UK your car would now be the property of the insurance company and if you wanted it back you would have to buy it back.

Well, I did buy it back on paper. The car was valued at what they thought it would be worth on the road minus what they thought the value would be as a wreck.

And you are not thinking about repairing it?
I know you were not really using it.

I could make a polyester mould from your hardtop :-)

sorry to here this H.T, looks like a trip to the breakers yard for spares. did that for my sons car & worked out very cheap to repair

Over here in the states, I would fix that car in a heartbeat. A very simple, straightforward repair. Actually much easier than the one I repaired as all the damage is concentrated in one area. Over here, the hoods are the hardest to find, so we have to buy them at the dealer. HINT: If you have a shop account, or know someone who does, you can save about 25% on the new hood price. Bumpers are not too expensive, and there are more options in Europe if you want something custom. I'd try to source parts from a breaker, you might even get lucky and get them in the same color, which makes for a very easy fix...

Best of luck to you!
Joshua

Thank's Joshua, it will be but at the moment it is a question of principle, as I did not crash it.
