The light is on on the dash so I went to the mechanic and the code says the ABS module was bad. This means I have no ABS brakes. Any suggestions anybody. $ 800.00 for a used Module installed.

a rebuild comes in at around the 200 quid mark IIRC....in my mind is worth doing..its brakes !.....and you're sure to get the right part..plus another 10 years out of it

Can you get second hand parts for your Zed in America as easily as we can over here? Are there any independent specialised BMW guys that really care about the work they do for you? If you can find one, they are worth more than gold dust!:)

Got a guy but he charges 'GOLD DUST" ! his price for a used module is 800 $ installed . Have no idea where the part comes from or how long it will last. He also is a BRIT. Calls me Mate right off the bat ! I think most parts are bought off E-Bay and you guess is where the originally come from. now I am trying to find the original OEM part # to make sure I get the right part.

Swamper , Zedonist, EnthuZiaZT, GazHyde. What if I do nothing and just drive without ABS ? I don't live in Ice and so so don't really need it ?

It's not about ice mate, it's about being able to drive round an obstacle such as a child, in a controlled manner when having to brake really hard, rather than just skidding head long into a full impact with the obstacle, and that could be in the brightest hottest day when they just step off the side walk in front of you.

But at the end of the day it is your choice, there are plenty of older cars that don't have the technology.

The only other thing to bear in mind is that your traction control will not work either with the ABS no working

Totally agree with Zedonist. It's completely pointless until you need it.

We all used to manage without it at one stage, but it's comforting to know its there. If you can get the hang of 'cadence braking' (pressing and releasing the brake pedal alternately really quickly) you may be able to live without. It's what you used to have to do before abs to avoid those pesky kids!
