ABS light is on sometimes and off others. RPM limp home limiter not activated. Will check wheel sensors, but RaceLogic TC still works OK and that uses the same wheel sensors... I have had my entire ASC removed a year or two ago and has been no problem. 1998 M52B28

My ABS/ASC lights came on intermittently and for no apparent reason. After much reading I found that there is a bit of a problem with dry solder joints in the control module. There is a Company in the UK that will look at the pump/module unit and I think they charge around £200 + postage if they can fix it. Link http://www.ecutesting.com/bmw_5_series__e39__abs_pump_mo.html.

In my case I found a used pump that had no faults and paid £120 for it. That is now fitted and the ABS light is off and has so far remained off. The ASC light is on however and from further reading I have found that whilst the ABS unit does not require recoding to the car (only applies if exactly the same part number!!!) for the ASC to operate correctly the are 3 bits of data that must the loaded from the master ECU to the ASC ECU. I intend to buy the cables and software to do this shortly and hopefully that will sort it.

Could be you are seeing the same problem with a dry solder joint beginning to break down. Let us know how you get on as it seems to be a problem that crops up from time to time. Good luck.
