I have the above lights coming on intermittently, they normally are on when I start then sometimes go off sometimes don't after driving. Other times it can go a period without ever coming on.
I have read up on other threads including a few pages from littlfeller back in 2016.
It seems I may have a wheel sensor issue , but which on?.
Unfortunately I do not have a code reader , but advice welcome please on what to get---car is a 2.2 Sport manual .
Parking brake light only on as its parked on our steep drive
Car is due MoT soon so need to resolve the issue.

It could just be dirt on a sensor.

Take it out on a level road. Make sure it’s clear and hit the brakes hard a few times. This was advice from @t-tony to me when I had the same. It cleared it and did not come back.

I would though see if anyone local has a code reader to check other codes.

The C110 has a lot of fans. My brother has one.

In fact it was the first reader I used and diagnosed his M44 1.9 ABS fault. In fact that was the first job I ever did on a Z3 fixing his ABS - that turned out to be a faulty module.

You will need a round plug adapter and to plug it in under the bonnet connector.

I use laptop based software these days INPA or BMW Scanner 1.4.0

And a suggestion.

In my personal view owning a scanning tool is a must for any Z3 owner. £35 gets you in business with a C110 and they are very easy to use unlike the laptop based ones. Of course the laptop based scanners have a lot more functionality.

It's still worth buying a scanner even if you never want to fix stuff yourself. They give you an insight into the issue so you can stay 1-step ahead of rip-off garages. And the ensuing advice from posting codes on this forum will, in my view, always be better than what a garage will tell you, including potentially a BMW dealer.

Many issues posted on this forum require the codes to be read. And ABS faults are near the top of the list.

A resource to refer people to would be nice so the same explanation is not needed every time.

Get yourself the reader above, and start from there.

As for guesses, the most likely culprit is one of the wheel sensors. These live in the worst conditions, in the muck, the cold and the heat on all 4 wheels. They have most likely been in place for 20 years. The tips get quite mucky with debris, and can cause erratic readings. Taking them out often destroys them, so if you do look at them, expect to replace. Cheap ones on eBay, dear ones at BMW!

Use some wd40 or penetrating oil around them a good hour before you try to remove them. make sure your allen key is nicely seated before you put force on them.

Whilst the sensor is out, look down the holes where the sensors live, and check that the teeth are all there.

Check that the grey connectors for the sensors are nicely together, no bent pins, corrosion etc.

Next reverse up to a wall, make sure your brake lights are operating ok, that is the switch by the pedal is operating correctly.

Next is the ABS control box itself. Full of 1990s electronics, all soldered, and with joints liable to become dry joints. If its this, needs repairing by a specialist really. I cut the top off mine to check, but ended up replacing it. Easy to remove if the same as mine.

Next, brake fluid, are your brakes nice and firm, or spongy? If in doubt, have them pressure bled.

Good luck for a fast fix of this most annoying problem!

My rear offside speed sensor has been replaced twice over the years, the last time was after crossing saddleworth moor whilst it was being resurfaced in the summer......not a good idea dust and grit everywhere......idiots speeding through loose grit peppering my beloved zeddy.....and then the lights all came on. All sorted at Darren Woods Bredbury

I am now getting round to sorting this problem out , I am considering changing all 4 sensors (they have done 17years)
Z3I above comments "Cheap on eBay dear from BMW."

Anyone can recommend a reliable supplier at reasonable cost.

ECParts I was recommended Delphi but early days for me as only replaced a few weeks ago

I have replaced both front and 1 rear all with Delphi sensors no trouble since fitting.

Good to know as my after market ones don't work, I'll give Delphi a try, was going to go with Bosch but I have read that BMW used ATE

One point to remember is that the ABS sensor leads like the pad wear indicator leads have an "O" ring on them the seal the connection, it's a good idea to lubricate this before pushing the connectors together, it does make a difference in getting a good connection.

Tony.

On the rigid electrical connector? Never thought of that before.

I fitted a new O/S/R pad wear sensor on Alejandro's Z3 a few weeks ago Rob and the light stayed on. So I lubricated the "O" ring and the connector pushed together easily and completely and the light went out straight away.

Interesting. That might explain the issue I'm having getting rid of a N/S/F error with a new sensor.

It's worth checking Rob. It surprised me to be honest. Something I'd never considered and only came across this purely by chance.

Tony.

ps. I have an airbag light on and our local Auto Electrician told me to check the connections in the plugs inside the door card for a misaligned or dislodged pin and also the pins in the multi plug on the "A" pillar too.

Possibly only relevant with side air bags? Although not necessarily as the loom is still there on a Z3 without.

I'll check mine today mate, a very good point pal.

Just ordered a complete set [4No] of Delphi from buycarparts for total of £107.72
On the C110 I am getting

SS03024C

10,02,00,94 No Found
10,02,00,95 No Found
10,02,00,41 No Found

I understand the first is sensor/abs related but any held on the other 3 items.
