Is it just me, but having scoured all the pictures and video clips of those shameful scenes in DC. did any one spot any “people of colour” amongst those who invaded Capitol Hill?

Utterly appalling scenes yesterday and an assault on democracy.
Four died. And still the Orange One maintains his disillusion and incited what happened.
The next administration needs to take action on this.

Watching the news reporters interviewing some who were part of all this leads me to the conclusion that we are not alone in the world with numpties. No surprise they also have their fair share, I suppose its in their Genes from way back when the Pilgrim Fathers landed there.
Scenes worthy of a third world Dictatorship, not a civilized democracy and one man totally unfit for public office to blame. 
Mainly rednecks but there were the odd non-white. The frightening thing is their perception of democracy. Some haven't progressed in their outlook since Independence. The only reality is theirs and nothing else matters.
Trump has no concept that what he promotes will likely come back at him and his businesses. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Angele Merkle today drew comparisons with the sacking of the Riechstag and the consequential takeover of the Nazism. The parallels are uncomfortably close. Barely one step away. American (and for that matter UK) politics needs to take a very close look at the consequences of polarisation and the pitfalls of promoting unquestioning adulation of an individual. Yet, America is so scared of what they call socialism - something that over here we would be at best, hardly left of centre.
A sad for the USA. Let's just hope it isn't a sad day for the rest of us.

Well what was the head count anyone?????? When you find it just calculate what % of the total pop of USA then you’ll know if it was significant. Security Authorities court napping but won’t happen again for sure. Trump lost all credibility if in fact he actually had any in the first place. All be forgotten in a couple of months, not much different to our usual protests in London. IMO.

I've been saying for ages that Trump ran the White House/Government as his own company, if you didn't agreed with him - you're sacked, make up stories, tell lies, etc which just what he did with his businesses. As someone said he's never been in a position were he has lost before so doesn't know how to handle the situation, in the past he would bully people to get his own way. He just isn't a fit person to hold so much power which he abuses at every turn.
Hope they manage to dismiss him from the presidency before he can do anymore damage. He doesn't really care about the damage he is doing he just wants to make things difficult for the president elect for the next 4 years.

I think this is different Roy, Trump has taken 75 million dissolutioned people on a 4+ year journey. This will take generations to resolve. The lesson here for all Governments is do what you are elected to do or this is the result. Sad times indeed.

Andy, I believe if it was a real problem the unrest would have been country wide. We must give the more sensible Americans more credit. The dissatisfied proportion of Trumps followers voted with the opposition or didn’t even bother to vote, he failed cos he couldn’t identify with the majority, how else can you lose an election. Saying that election was rigged was targeted at the very people who he (somehow) knew would respond. Spoilt super rich man throwing tantrum as I see it. I give it a few weeks at most, the die hards will no doubt try to keep the flame burning, plenty of them around the world. They need a real leader not one where half the voters are frightened of what he might do in a real crisis. We will have to see who’s prediction is nearer the mark. My vote goes with the sensible Americans.

RICHARD LITTLEJOHN: Trump's recent behaviour, however predictable and anti-democratic, is not exactly without precedent on this side of the pond. There are other similarities, too.
It seems that Pence and others have effectively given Trump an ultimatum - row back and tell the world that what happened at the Capitol building was wrong or face Amendment 25. He still started his video with a lie though. I wonder how his ardent and indoctrinated supporters feel now.
They need to stop seeing the world through the same eyes as those 250 years ago and before, stop seeing leadership the same as in Germany in the 1930s and economic policy of heavy industrialism of the late 1800's. The free world, like it or not, is fundamentally different. Far more nuanced. Will they wake up?
I hope that finally some sense is beginning to settle in some quarters in the US and hope it spreads - then, the west can stand down and return all its arsenal to point back at the east. You think I jest?!
