#ZedShed About the #ZedShed (TM)

Been so long since you were down we should class you as a newbie :D
Well you took longer with that reply than I thought you would,;) you must be busy. =))

I will be back and with my wallet and overalls:thumbsup:

Always up for visitors on a Saturday, always starts with a breakfast at the local catering van before work commences!

If it's ok, I would like one of you to point out anything obvious I should get the dealer to fix on warranty, that I may not know that is wrong on my M? I can't do much due to my back problems, but I am always keen to learn more about my car and car in general.

Sadly my only useful skills are to do with computers (both Apple Mac/Windows) , so if people have laptops etc they want me sort out, be it service, update, put software on etc, I would be happy to do that. Also, when I was working full time in IT for both the NHS and then Oxford City Council, I would often help teach people how to use software and more advanced computer skills, so this is something I can sit down with people and help them learn the things that to me are "easy", as bar the physical problems I have with working on cars, I do find them so daunting.

My dad before he started getting too old for the job, use to be a mobile car valeter/detailer for over 20 years. There are a lot of things he can teach/advice when it comes to getting a car to a concourse level. There is a thread on PH about E46 M3's and a friend of the guy who bought dad's E46 M3 Cab earlier this year, said it was possibly the best E46 M3 he had ever driven, Coupe or Cab, manual or SMG. He was actually very open about just how well sorted dads car was, so it was really nice for me to see, as it proved I don't just have rose tinted lenses on, when it comes to my old man :)

Newbies buy the rolls

Sure, I'm more than happy to get a round of rolls in, but you'll have to buy the fillings :P , I honestly don't mind doing that for everyone when I come down. Just warn me if I'm going to need to mortgage my soul to cover all the food beforehand :D

Would be nice to have a pro polish session so we can see the tricks of the trade.

In the last 18 months that he did it, he really got into paint correction methods etc. When he sold the business and it's assets, he kept all of the detailing stuff as he was determined to get his M3 to perfection. He still regularly valets and details his own car (and now my Zed) as it's a good way for him to keep fit now he's in his 70's!

I was telling him about the ZedShed earlier today and he thinks it's brilliant that you do something like this. I will have a chat with him about joining me when I pay my dues in bread and bacon.

Agree using anything except a micro cloth on my cars scares the hell out of me would love some advice.

How did I miss this chat =))

Definitely take you up on this offer when the weather gets better. :D

Should I earmark a date sometime in mid April for him to come down to the Shed and go over things with people? If we leave it until the middle of summer, it will get much harder to do, as the polish can get baked onto the paint pretty darn quick and I would hazard a guess people want to be able to put to use what they learn, so their cars look awesome for all the summer shows and meets?

April is good, we have a gazebo to detail under :)

The 19th through to the 22nd is the Easter bank holiday weekend, so if we earmarked Saturday the 6th of April, it will give you all a fortnight to put into practice some of the things he can teach you, so your cars will look all nice and shiney, with as few swirls or holograms as possible.

It will have to be on a Saturday, as my Poppa is busy most Sunday mornings, during that time of year.
