I do read quite a bit and so Shirl got me these books at Christmas.

She had bought the 1950's one for her uncle Harry and asked what I thought, and then got it and the 1960's one as well for me plus the Jodie Kidd one.
In the 50's book the Austin/Nash car we were speaking about a couple of weeks ago,

And the car that first gave the love of a straight six motor as a young kid, The Standard Vanguard.

I'm really going to enjoy these books.

ps. Another favourite from those days was the Ford V8 Pilot (Flathead) who h several of the Grasstrack guys used.

I can vaguely remember those Metropolitan cars , a few knocking about in the 60s , never knew their name until now.

I had an Austin Allegro the guys at work called it the "Family Heirloom " as it was given to me by the MIL .

My mother had one, bought it after my dad passed away. Blue-green and white. I was 16, and begged her to never come pick me up after school.

As a kid I thought they looked very exotic, today however, not so much.

The Standard Vanguard 4 pot engine was good too. My mate had a TR2 with that engine in the sixties and it sounded great. Pulled well too, but got bad axle tramp round sharp corners when pushed.Good fun.:)
