To be fair it was a test to launch and separate, the launch was successful but the transition back down and separation failed.

It's a rocketry term (RUD), for when a rocket explodes. The SpaceX one today doesn't quite qualify as a RUD, as the rocket was blown up by the safety range manager, because the second stage did't separate.
