The way life is going at the moment, with people starting off with great items ........... :p
They are going to want the finer things in life all the time :)
And sometimes that can't happen :)
Because life changes so quickly .......... ;)
Your meet someone , buy a house then marriage, children etc ........ :)
That's when it will hit the person hard , :p
Unless they have rich parents :ymdevil:

When I was a little girl ......... :p
I used to wonder why all the older people ( it now includes me ) :)
Had lovely cars etc :)
I now know why ......... :)
It's because you build your way up the ladder ;)
And have had all the cheaper things because you have got your house , had children ( but grandchildren can be just as expensive) and now you can sit back and relax and should be able to watch the younger generation do the same :p

Any pics boys?? JIM
Took a look JIM, mainly shots of buildings etc. This is one of the RAF Officers Mess, on the top floor was Goering's room. If you look closely at one of the beams it's not straight. Goering used to pull up a sand bag and tell his junior officers old stories and he'd always end by saying "if it's not true that beam will fall on my head". One of the junior officers rigged up a cable under the floor and up across the beam and pulled it thus lowering the middle of the beam towards Goering's head. I believe he didn't see the funny side. Seen it in action myself, good history.

RAF Land Rover fire rescue vehicle. Yep, a fireman used to sit in the world's most dangerous seat, if you could get in before the driver pulled away!

Great pics and a great story, I'd bet that fellow ended up on the front in Russia by the next night, if he got that far! Thanks, JIM

My first car was a '79 Mk2 Escort 1600 sport. It was 10 years old when I bought it. A few weeks later when I changed the burnt out wiper motor I noticed the day light streaming through the rust holes in the engine bulkhead. I didn't care , it had quarter bumpers, sports seats and pancake filters!

Poor sod, did it attract the birds?
Hmmmmm, sadly, no. On the upside it wasn't mine, it belonged to the RAF as I was on my driving course at RAF St. Athan in Wales. If you can drive through Cardiff as a learner you can drive anywhere:whistle:

The 1.8 was basically the B series engine which they fitted in the MGB. We had an old 1.8 Marina for the works run about where I worked years ago and it got ragged relentlessly. Poor thing.:ymdevil:

Tough engines and simple to work on...shame about the rest of the car tho =)). The 1.8 must of been good in an MGB. I had a mk 3 cortina after that (1.6) and it was a good motor i'd have another one, love the shape of them but then again i'm easily pleased.

The Mk 3 was the best looking of all the Cortina's in my opinion Steve, I loved the vinyl roof and chrome bumpers, and the Pinto engine, one of the first very common engines to use a timing belt, was almost bullet proof. They were used for many years in F2 stock cars and hotrod racing.

I agree they just had loads of character about them which is something lacking in modern cars imo.I had a mk4 after that previously owned by a mechanic who had the head cross flowed and a few other bits and it went like stink :coolsteer)and had mid night blue paint work around the rust :D

The mk4 weren't too bad for the rust bug but the mk5's were built from recycled steel and had the termites ready built in and they rotted faster than a Morris 1100, and that's nearly as quick as an Alfa Sud only just beaten by the Lancia Beta,....... which simply dissolved like an Alkaselzter.

I very nearly bought a 2000E back in mid eighties but with two young boys and two dogs I bought a 245 Volvo Estate. It was much maligned by everyone from my family to my workmates but I was the first one they called whenever they wanted anything shifting =))

Four of us picked up and put a Kawasaki Z650 in the back once. My mate bought it but it was non runner and the deal was that he had to take it away there and then once he'd paid for it.

Im a little late to the party with this thread, but i kind of agree with you, but I have been insured on my parents car, which was only bought for me to learn to drive (ford fiesta 1.4 diesel) ... lol ... and now im going to be driving this which of course vastly different and a LOT nicer, i can appreciate how nice it is. And i don't think i will be selling it in order to get a different car, I plan on restoring it to its original show room beauty and keeping it for a long time :)

I must add, Im 21 in august so its not like im jumping the gun and buying a z3 when im 17, most of my mates had 1.0 go carts at that age but i have just learned to drive when im older, so I thought i would buy a car that I would like and keep. The main thing is the insurance. if you were 17 and trying to get insurance on a 2.8 zed you would be paying about £13000 I will be paying %10 of that.
