A tad damp under foot.

And onto your lawn? =))
Well it finally stopped raining here and the front "lawn" looks like this.

Next door at the lake all the platforms are under water so Neil will have to try to lower the level to run a match tomorrow.

So he pulled the plug out the "overflow" which goes into the ditch at the roadside.

I live on a hill but nearly got flooded out about 25years ago. Went to go out to work 06.30 am one morning after torrential rain all night to see water level in front garden just two inches from entering the front door. Shouted to neighbor going to work to come and have look. We decided to get the old metal dustbin and start to ferry the water out to road drain, after about 45min and 11dustbin fills we were still only 4inches from water flooding into the house, both now late for work I decided to hammer out two bricks from under my outhouse door which had 3inch lower floor than the the main house, the water poured in and was still only about inch lower than main floor.
Hammered out rear end door bricks which let the water flow into the back garden. That saved the main house but then it started to pour down with rain again. As my neighbor walked up the two steps in my front garden he noticed the rainwater running down the public pavement into my garden where the public paving had sunk which stopped the water going past my garden gate to the road drain. Phoned work and took day off ferrying buckets out all day. Fire brigade informed and after inspection told me to report pavement sinking and suggested building tapered extra step into garden just 2inches higher than pavement which could be knocked out when pavement repairs done by council. Well the step is still their and when they came to repair pavement 13mths later I refused to take out the step so they had to relay their pavement the whole length of 60 yds to keep in line with mine and still give me my 2inch step. Still not happy so sunk a water butt into the ground with submersible pump under my front window connected to guttering down pipe just to make sure, the pump is now 25yrs old and filter has to cleaned every other year but has never actuated automatically as far as we know. How on earth will I explain it to anyone who wants to buy our house if we ever want to sell. Living on a hill is no guarantee you can't be flooded out when you have a slope down to your dwelling, something to bear in mind if your buying. Boss wants pump taken out but it's still there cos I'm just getting too old to drag dustbins full of water out to the road drain. Five houses with same sloping garden but I'm the only one ever had a problem.

Under red azalea is large water butt with submersible pump. Water allowed to filter through paving brick row next to house connected underground with plastic pipe to butt.

Never a dull day in this house, every time there's a late night thunder storm someone's up looking.

A lot of flooding here in Derbyshire tonight, fortunately we live on top of a hill. The land slopes away in every direction.

Our village escaped this time other Doncaster residents not so lucky

Been watching on the news Paul. Glad you're ok mate.

Neighbours have got soggy carpets but got off lightly.
I feel blessed that my house is higher than theirs. Carried out an emergency trench into the field from the garden. Was like pulling the plug in the bath out.
Folks at the end of the street not so lucky. Fire engine pumping them out.
Still what I saw coming into Donny through Bentley yesterday looks like Venice so Belton got off lightly.

We are about 1/2 mile from the worst flooding in Bentley, and
Roads have been shut all round us.Thankfully we have been
O K so far but it’s really hard to see folks walking from their homes
Case in hands leaving them to the mercy of the elements!
