I saw this in today's paper and it doesn't surprise me to be honest. Could happen and maybe even up the Highlands.

Tony.

Let's hope this spreads to the M25

Areas such as the lakes and the highlands rely massively on tourism, personally I cant see this happening, but one never knows what's around the corner

There was a programme on ITV tonight about Mt. Snowden and the amount of traffic in the area during the summer months, it raised a similar question regarding traffic it this area too. I'm not advocating this as a good thing but I would not be surprised to see it. What you may see is locally operated tours to keep vehicles out of the busiest parts?

What we don't have is roads like these ................

Absolutely. Did you notice the amount of dutch licence plates on the strip to skye.

The whole of scotland is a driving heaven and a huge proportion of the economy relies on these people taking trips. Theres more chance of emission free zones. In 2022 my z will no longer be allowed in the city centre of Glasgow.

Yes I noticed lots of foreign plates on skye and even spoke to some tourists from Germany at the hotel, personally I couldn't give a toss if our cars are banned from cities as I detest the places ;)

They have been on about banning cars from the lakes for years the last idea I heard was having huge park and ride car parks situated at strategic points around the lakes and shuttle buses

Ok. But the buses would have to mini buses at best looking at the footage I've seen.

Tony

I visit the lakes every year and spend my hard earned there, so do they want me to join the masses and go abroad, is that good for the economy/environment?

It’s the few towns in and around the Lakes that get massively congested. Most people thankfully never stray far from those. I can see that some other more scenic places get busy at weekends too. As long as the herds don’t discover how wonderful the rest is it will be ok.

Whilst I appreciate we need to change in some respects. There is no viable alternative to a lot of this. Some roads in the lakes are not suitable to public transport vehicles being too narrow and sharp bends. So I wonder what’s going to take people around. ??

I think the example is the now £100 a day ULEZ in London for HGVs. Great idea, hey how come my food and beers gone up. o_O

Simple, new vehicles have to be paid for. So the cost get put down the line.

Biggest problems in these areas or so I have been told, is the increasing numbers of lunatic BMW Z3 and Z4 drivers using the countries beauty spots for something called "Hooning" ever heard the like?:whistle:

Hooning is just about socially acceptable. Mooning on the other hand....

Seathwaite is a tiny place, not really even a village. The road is in fact a dead end with a farm that allows camping.
I imagine it gets busy there mainly for parking for those ascending Scafell and the surrounding mountains. In fact I parked there in Aug when I climbed Great Gable.
