Willie Thorne a snooker player from the golden age of the game has died after contracting Leukeamia in March of this year. I liked Willie, he was a real character and a great exponent of the game. So sad to hear he has passed away. R.I.P. Willie.

We went to The Seniors Tournament in Sheffield last year which Jimmy White won. It was a late finish which wrecked our plan to get a curry after the final so we bought tickets for the shindig back at the players hotel. Willie was at the next table to us and seemed in rude good health and humour at the time. A decent payer in his day and a true gent. RIP.

Such a shame he had his Gambling Addiction Tony, it probably ruined the end of his life. Leukeamia is a horrible disease, we lost our youngest daughter and my brother to it.

Grew up watching Willie Thorne, Cliff Thorburn, Alex Higgins etc when I was a kid. Loved to watch the snooker with my dad on a saturday Afternoon. Many a pro snooker player has fell to the likes of gambling or Alcohol addiction, in Tony Knowles case a liking to wear ladies under garments! :confused:

You kept that quiet Grumps!=))=))

Hi bud, you all OK?

Tony.

I met him when he came to play in golf a charity event at the club I used to be the assistant pro at. He played in the group in front of me and we caught up with them a few times on the way round, he was telling some great stories. A very funny and caring bloke, was a pleasure to meet him.
