A nice suprise

A lot of 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 diesel vans aren't turbo'd so may be ok for insuring new drivers. Our boy had a 1.8d Fiesta Van when his Golf died and it lasted him until earlier this year.

Well done Amy. Dads taxi is now redundant!

Going to be going through the same in a few months when Jonathan does his test. In some ways a 2 seater is better - it'll put off having a load of freeloading mates in the car. Any decent two seat small cars out there?
Not that I can think of! Oh there is the MX5! :D

Congrats Amy. Freedom at last! Autoglym for Christmas it is then ;)

Buy any small saloon and just remove the rear seats and seat belts and then for all intents and purposes, including the M.O.T. , it's a two seater.

Well we have gone from elation to despair.........robbing insurance company's .
Sara got a quote for Amy yesterday of £1200 for a year,so we phoned them today to go ahead with the policy, they wacked it up to £1344 :wideyed: so we say ok we'll do it.
Then it transpires you can only do 77 miles a week and it's monitored with a black box recorder thing so you can't cheat and for every 100 miles over that is an extra £250 :wideyed::wideyed:.
The upshot was to cover her for reasonable real world mileage was going to be £2550 a year:meh:....just ridiculous.
Any one had similar?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Steve (father of a depressed teenager).

When is a quote not a quote?
I thought a quote was a binding invitation to tender. What limit did it last? Two minutes?
Did you change something however small on the cover?

Well done Amy
Jesus insurance isn't cheap!!
Make sure you add yourself as a second driver
Unfortunately we don't specialise in young drivers :(
Try Tesco, direct line and Aplan

You may find an Escort Van not to be cheap, I run old bangers as daily drivers and a van has been the latest, not out of choice but simply because one came up. Insurance for a typical old banger was very reasonable but it shot up with a van even for non commercial use. Got good insurance quote for my other cars from @BMBabe but the premium she came up with for the van was too high so I had to go elsewhere otherwise I'd have gone with Stacey. Think they assume if you have a van you're going to work it, damn useful though, no prob getting a grandfather clock in or a bicycle or garden rubbish down the tip or . . . . . . :D

A lot of my mates started off with Escort Vans, so maybe a van is the way to go ?

Too true, our Gary had a VW Golf GT tdi 1.9 and when to changed to a Partner 1.8 D (non-turbo) his insurance went up !!

My first ever car car was a 3000GT Capri which I had for 2 months then swapped for a Granada 3 litre Ghia Coupe.
Can't remember how much insurance was. Think I insured them on my dads policy.

Well done on passing though.
I think I would fail very miserably now.=))
