A new motorist in the Bozzy clan

Amy's early 18th birthday present .....unfortunately not a zed which was what she wanted but the insurance quotes were insane,shouldn't have to keep hiding my zed keys now .
we went out for a little tootle and she is quiet confident,she's had 15 lessons so far with a driving school and the instructor said she just needs to get some hours in behind the wheel and she'll soon be ready for her driving test. The downside of passing her test is the insurance will be more than double what it is at the mo as a learner .

We apply for Jack's provisional this month, he understands the rules. If he even thinks about somebody who has thought about somebody thinking about even getting close enough for their exhaled air getting even remotely close enough to my Zed he would need to start walking to Far Far Away and once he's got there, carry on walking.

Our 3 children did pass plus it lowered the insurance by a lot ,I think it was £75 one off charge and it's really good

When they are a learner, they are accompanied by an experienced driver. The risk is perceived as lower then. When they pass, there is no-one monitoring their driving and they become a greater risk.

@Redline - I think I knew that but it does seem a little unfair especially as it's usually us the parents who end up footing the bill until they can afford it but I suppose that's what we are there for

Nothing about car insurance is fair nowadays.

Getting off topic - sorry.
Windscreen replacement is the latest scam - more or less force you to use their provider, don't hit your no claims but then bump your premium up instead. Auto glass quoted £1300 to replace mine (which is what I presume they charged the insurance which in the end I used). The dealer, just too late quoted me £660 +VAT. I know I'll get hammered for making a claim

And it was caused by a car steaming past at over 90mph chucking a stone up. Not my fault :-(

I'm afraid our 3 children wrote off their first car having passed first time,one with no faults (minors) and the others with 1 and2 and I considered them reasonable drivers,but unfortunately lacking experience,all 3 of them were alone in the car and there was no other car involved,they all walked away un injured except for my grey hairs.they all happened in the rain or in the case of one on a wet leafy corner in the autumn.they were so used to driving in the relatively dry weather they hadn't the experience to adapt to different conditions despite my warnings.it was cheaper to recover the £1000 car and scrap it than claim on the insurance.Our youngest daughter does 750 miles a week as a rural postie and I still worry about them driving

@Bozzy, we had exactly the same with Jack. His insurance was around £800 as a learner. Soon as he'd passed it went up to £1850 for a 10 year old Punto!! . He did his pass plus and the cheapest insurance company said it made no odds to them so we tried a few others and got nowhere with it as reconsied paper to give a discount. 4 years down the line he's never been able to gain a discount with it. He pays £600 now for an 08 plate fiesta Zetec.
