Something a bit different for me today. A work mate of mine that is having an awful time has just treated himself to an Audi A3 convertible. It's a 59 plate done 60k but it's not been the best looked after in regards to paintwork, well curbed alloys etc. Poor bloke looks like the world is going to end so I've invited him round for the day to give his car the best fettling I can without owning a polisher.
The car is a base model so is running on 15" alloys so he's bought a set of oem 17"s which were switching as well while he's here. I'm looking forward to it, I'm normally the one having to ask for assistance with things so it's nice to give a little bit of something back and hopefully be able to get a smile on his face along the way, mind you, all knowing what a miserable git I am that's doubtful!:D

Nice one Dave  Always a fan of paying things forward tbh. Karma points add up :)

Do you have a clay bar ? Always worth doing on shoddy paintwork. Audi paint is quite hard so can take a bit of punishment, similar to BMW.

Don't forget before and after pics.

Hope it goes well and tea keeps flowing :D

Yeah have a clay bar Toby. I'll do my best with it. It should certainly come out better than when it goes in.

What a good friend you are, Dave. Good friends are worth more than money in my opinion. Hope you have a successful day.

Yeah well done. Just giving the car a bit of love and your time will probably make your mate feel better about it on top of any more obvious improvement.

A car that needs a bit of tlc can quickly become a hobby and if you're not careful an obsession  it can be a welcome distraction from some of life's hurdles and best of all get you out of the house. It's half the reason I bought my Z. Good on you for encouraging some positive energy:thumbsup:

It's arrived.

You're welcome to use my d.a mate.
Nice looking motor .

I could meet you at junction 27 this afternoon Dave to lend you the d.a if that's any help ?
Bless you that's ok mate. We've made do with hand polishing for now. Really good of you though fella thanks.

Well, while you're in the mood mush. . . . . . . . . . . ;)=)). Good on you Dave.

It's all about the distraction @Uncle_Clanger. He needs to get out for a bit.

Personally I wouldn't clay if I wasn't going to machine polish afterwards, especially on dark paint as you will marr the paint with a claybar.

Good on ya tho grumpy.

Not if you use a mild clay and plenty of lubricant

Ok all done. He's one happy boy. The results are great considering I don't have a machine, just good old fashioned hand polishing. The car is pretty bad on most panels especially the bonnet. I'm not a detailer just enjoy valeting a car.
So we clay barred first, sorry (zimzimmer) followed by autoglym dark colours, auto glym high gloss and a coat of wax to seal it. After polishing and protecting the alloys we swapped them over. The wheels make a huge difference going from a 15 to 17 inch and 6.5j to 8j. They filled right to the edge of the arches perfectly. Had a little run up the road so Roy could try it after the wheel swap and stopped for a couple of pics. I have enjoyed today and it's took Roy's mind of things for a while and he's got a much nicer looking car to boot.
