Hi guys,
I'm new here, but I have always come here for advice and help with my Zed, it was advice from here that helped me replace my rear windscreen, fix my air intake and idler, and also enable me to get the roof down despite that I think the motor might be in need of being replaced. But I have a couple of issues that I can't find a clear answer for, I've searched but there's nothing definite over it.
I have 2.0l UK spec Z3, it's 16 years old now with 91k miles on the clock. I will introduce her and post piccies when I next get some. I know that she's been sat wet (leaking roof) for a while, I have fixed this now but I'm seeing silly little problems that I'm sure are related to this.
Anyway, today's issues are;
1. Rough running when cold. Simply put before the engine warms up it runs incredibly rich, pouring petrol straight out of the exhaust and popping regularly. I have replaced all of the air intake now so I seriously doubt this the problem, plus the fact that it calms down after 30seconds to a minute of running suggests that's not the issue too (although happy to be proven wrong for a couple of quids worth of rubber hose haha). I have been told that it might be the VANOS, but the guy who told me this has to be right about everything, even when he doesn't know what he's talking about so I'm not convinced by him.
2. It appears that the water pump has blown a seal, it is dumping coolant all over the front of the engine bay. I have read some horror stories about impeller blades embeded in plastics, and this has not happened, the pump itself appears to be still be working beyond pouring the water down the V belts. Has this happened to others and should I just change the seal (if possible) or just replace the pump? (I don't want the hellish sounding explosions that some people have described to happen to me). Is the pump easy to remove?
Thanks very much in advance guys.
