Hi

I need a bigger shed, one that will hold all of the BMW cars that I want to buy. This came planning into view today as I was starting up a BMW Z4 that has sat for 2 1/2 years.

The poor Z4 was surrounded by Fords, Zephyrs (I think they're Consol's in the UK), Zodiacs, Capris, Cortinas etc. A quick estimate was at lest 30 of them in the shed (plus motorbikes above an office area). Then I discovered another 15-20 parts cars outside when leaving. All in a nondescript shed in a small rural community not far from me. This guy had it sorted, had purchased as many as he could over the last 30 or so years and just parked them up. At 70+ he has got into restoration mode and has completed 3 beautiful full strip and paint Zephyrs. A 1990's V6 Capri with 14,000 original km is next off the blocks. To me it was just blow the dust off it and give it a polish. He wants to do a full strip, send the engine out to be checked over and bear metal spray. He already had 3 Zephyr straight 6 and a Capri V6 engine completely rebuilt ready for when the right car steps forward for restoration. When I commented about looking forward to a long and enjoyable retirement, his response was that he would restore a few, but most have been saved for others to enjoy once he has died. I like that sentiment. Now to collect BMW's with the same vigor will require a bigger shed! Two relatively rare Z3's is just not enough.

Oh, back to the 2007 Z4 (M54B30), pulled the coil packs and plugs, turned the engine over for about 20 seconds until the oil light went out (was wondering if it would ever go out), then put the plugs etc back in, checked the oil/ water, looked for mice activity etc and it fired first turn and idled beautifully.

The old guy was happy when he saw me arrive in a Z3 and was very impressed when he discovered that my car had the same engine as his. "The mechanic knows the engine". He was concerned about the computer (old Fords don't have these), so plugged in the tablet and checked it all out for him, no issues.

Now to work out how to get that bigger shed? Might have to go back to work? Maybe retirement at 50 was not the best plan? Is the sacrifice worth it?

Regards

Muzz

Isn't a bit silly

'Saving them for other people '

But at the same time squirrelling them away where no one can use them?
