.

Looking good Ade.

Tony.

Having purchased a fellow forum members Zed, the intention was to use it for a Tribute body conversion. Although bought April/May time it wasn't until this Tuesday I got it transported up (other issues got in the way).

Having a gander around it today I thought " I bet that engine bay would come up well with the paint covered in dust and crud".

Having previously seen Andy's 'occasional' cleaning efforts and having quizzed Andy on his arsenal of polishes I had bought some to try.
Started by spraying light water with a 50p Wilko garden spray to soften it. Next was a small bucket of hot water with Fairy's Finest and a small circular softish bristle nail/scrubbing brush and a toothbrush. Working an area at a time cleaning off the grime I then 'rinsed' off with a J cloth using a bucket of clean water. The secret given by Andy was to use the Autoglym dressing while still wet - didn't come up bad:

Feeling chuffed with myself I made a coffee and broke open the Mr Kipling French Fancies (FANCIES not letters!)
Not sure what my toothbrush is going to taste like tonight though.
Top job Adrian, therapeutic 👌 and cakes too 🍰

Looks great!

Good effort Adrian:thumbsup:looks great.

I think it was beginners luck ...perhaps you could just try and make me change my opinion if you could do it to mine? :)=))=))=))
p.s. what was the final product as its nearly Christmas :rolleyes:

I think I will be moving to France as this cleaning bug is obviously moving South….. =))

Excellent job there Adrian! I always think the engine bays look cleaner when they have a colour other than black. I had two topaz Z3 s , one had the blue 'undercoat' finish under the bonnet , the other matt black. No matter how I cleaned the black one it just never looked as clean. Since then I've had a black Z3 and a black Z4.:banghead:

Excellent stuff, bet the Fancies went down well with the coffee - engine bay looks ok too

Did mine today. It always looks good after a good clean but why did BMW paint the engine bay a dull grey. Other colour cars have nice shiny engine bays. No matter how shiny and black I get the engine I'm always drawn to the engine bay and it's drab grey paint.

I think it's because they just leave the areas of the car that are not outwardly seen in a base coat. My 1999 Z3 in topaz blue had the dull blue in the engine bay etc, but a later Z3 in topaz I had was a dull black . When I asked at the dealer's they said that was the base coat on the car.

It would seem almost easier to paint everything the same. The blue engine bay at the start of the thread looks lovely
