My brick remote fob has a personality disorder.

It mostly unlocks the car (driver and boot lock NEVER passenger door. And very occasionally it will lock driver and boot lock but 90% if the time I have to use the key and only 80% of the time does the remote then open the doors.

I've changed the battery in the remote to no avail. Its not a huge problem but if someone has encountered this before and could advise me on a solution, I'd be grateful.

Cheers,

Loz

Ps. to be clear, I'm talking about the brick remote with the red and grey buttons. led flashes when either button is pressed. but only the unlock is mostly cooperative.

My brick remote fob has a personality disorder.

You are having a busy weekend - you appear to be going through the new Z3 owners list - I've been there and so have a few others.
The symptoms you describe are usually associated with boot loom wiring damage so I would start looking there. Open the boot and look at left side hinge. Loom wiring comes up out of the body and enters the boot lid.

I'll have a look for the Knowledge base links for you.;)

Can't find it in KB but if you search forum for `boot loom repair' you should find a number of threads on this problem.

Yep boot wiring would be where I would start. I will give you some pointers when we meet up. ;)

Thanks all!

I've got the original manual but it speaks not of how the owner can program function. The boot wiring is all good too. Through trail and error I've found disabling the interior sensors before I hop out and then locking remotely increases the chances of it working. It seems it might be also linked to the passive arming. Obviously I don't exit the car fast enough for Teutonic Efficiency Programming...

It seems better today though, so maybe it just likes the sun?
