Big ask, but why not print a whole dash panel in sections, and replace the OEM cutout for the vents and stereo with a double din insert?

David
Holy s***!!! That would take ALOT of filament, and I'd need a much larger print bed area realistically lol

I wish I could though :)

It is a big work indeed, and i agree not everyone after oem look. saying oem i mean rather "factory quality". not exactly bmw factory, but something less DIY looking...

Hopefully after you finish off the insert it will look great, though!

Ah yes I see what you mean. Would need to make a silicone mould from the smoothed 3D print and then use that mould to cast something but that's a long process and I sadly just don't have the room to get into silicone moulding lol. I did look into it & id love to do it but it's just not feasible

Yeah fingers crossed I can make it look better once I get around to "finishing" it properly

Well, perhaps you can glue together the front bits, sand them, prime and paint. If it is abs plastic you can also smooth it in acetone vapour bath. though a big task as well. casting of an epoxy may be bad option, epoxy may get distorted in car at summer time. had this issue before, most epoxy you can on right price get doesn't like anything more than 60-70C and direct sunlight.

It's printed in PETG... ABS is a ball ache trying to get it to print without warping or having layer splits etc. Been 3D printing almost 3 years I think now - I quit ABS ages ago lol

I have XTC3D which is basically just an epoxy coating that reduces, or completely covers the printing layer lines. Then you sand and smooth and paint.

In this instance I skipped the sanding and smoothing and just applied vinyl hence I'm going to remove the vinyl and do it properly

I really want to save and get a cr-10 too so I could then print the fascia in a single piece

How can I get the 3D models so I can print my own? I have access to several large 3D printers and could do this in a single piece build. Thanks for posting this.

My lad Jack went to Halfords yesterday to get a Pioneer Double Din touch screen thingy job stereo for his new car with his Xmas pennies and came out without one. What ever happened to remove old stereo and slot the new one in?
He was told he needed various other bits to make it fit and power up. The price shot up from £200 for the stereo to £350!!! Robbing b@#$=÷$@!!!

Hello,
How does this look now? I'm wanting to fit exactly the same head unit as you, and have plans to fabricate a fascia adapter, but to be honest.. if your thing works nicely I'd much rather pay for a tried and tested option, if that were an option.
