Not normal to hear this noise from a Disa valve, when they fail it's often described as a clacking noise, had this on my M43 4 cylinder, replaced mine with oem part at great expence but silence restored. Be aware that they can fall apart and bits get sucked into the engine not sure if its applicable to the 3.0l. Best pull it out and have a good look at it and check for it breaking apart.

The 3.0 DISA is a different type, unless you have done the M54 manifold conversion then you will need the M52TU version which is smaller than the M54 one and less common. I think it shares the same DISA as the 2.0.
