It's madness really. To the unknowing they may think they are getting a bargain and a great 3.0l when in reality they are on the bottom rung of a 3.0l
I spoke to the guy from Cambridge and yes he bought the black one, he has dent removal company and it sounds like he buys restores sells and moves up the spec. Also the car is stored outside which put me off a bit and I think it's on 5 owners. You guys will know better then me if those points are an issue.
I think the black 53 plate 3.0 sport on auto trader would be a good buy, excellent speced car. Currently advertised for £8850. Lovely car only thing that lets it down are small ding dents in the doors and service history book ( I'm sure you could buy a new service book and track down the history) My brother has spoken to the seller a couple of times and we're pretty sure he would take £6500.

That's one very big price drop. If it's as nice as it looks I couldn't begrudge him nearer the £9k mark. Personally I can't get hung up on service history.

That's near to me and I've seen it, looks nice. The doors however have a lot of dinks in them and would take a lot to sort out. £6k would be a sensible price in my opinion.

Depends how it has been kept outside, the biggest issue would be the roof and how the weather can effect it if it is not cleaned regular. Ours have all lived outside and so long as they are cleaned regular then it does not prove an issue.
As for the owners the Z3 and Z4 as for any roadster are more seasonal cars and tend to change hands more often than most standard types of cars so 5 owners on a car that is over 10 years would not be an issue in fact i would say that car has less owners than most.
Dont forget not all the Zeds you see for sale have been kept by enthusiasts.
If i was to view it with an intention to buy then the points mentioned would not be an issue to me.
Sometimes if a car has not been kept properly when it has been garaged then it can be in a worse condition to those kept outside. You can get a lot of condensation if the garage is not aired very well which can get in to areas of the car that would not normally be affected by keeping it outside or in an aired garage
There is a nice one on .net for sale. (if you can get the owner to let you view)

Surely getting dinks out is not an issue unless there is paint loss? My brother's had about a dozen dinks in each door along with about another 10 elsewhere and it was £200. And even if the doors had to be painted that's probably no worse than £250 a door.

If that's really all that's wrong with that one and the rest is pristine £6k is very optimistic these days for a low mileage 3.0.

What would concern me more is if the doors have that many dents what's wrong with the rest of it that may not be obvious?

That said my brother has owned his from new and the dinks were not a sign of anything else, just his silly fault for parking too close to the masses in supermarkets. Urggh :)

Hi all, I went and viewed the black 3.0ltr today as mentioned above, what would it cost to respray front bumper, bonnet, sills and remove just short of 20 dents.
The rims have gone under the lacquer also even though they were refurbished last summer.
And last but not least rear window heavily marked and the trim is coming away around it.

I had our Z4 done last year. Bumper, bonnet, wings and sills plus machine polish. £1200

If every panel is dented you are looking at a £1500-£2000

This is the way I see it and this is just my opinion. Trying to remove all 20 ding/ dents is going to be tough on a black car.
If you could find a good paintless dent removal guy, probably around £80 to £100 per panel. So let's say £250. But it will never be perfect.
The way I see it is if you are going to the hastle of painting the bonnet, front bumper and sills, (1/2 the car) you might as well get the doors and rear wings done too. Basiclly a full respray (£2000 to £2500) It all depends on how good you want the car to look.
Rear windows are about £170 and if it's a original Hood can be zipped in. The rear window outer trim should be able to be carefull tucked back in.
Give me a call if you want a chat about it 07919 331985

If you can get it for around 6k you will need to factor in the cost of the front end respray which i would estimate at £500 ish for the Bonnet £250 ish for the Bumper and i would estimate another £250 to £300 for the door and sills. I would not bother getting the dings out i would try and source a decent 2nd hand door and get it sprayed approx cost £50 to £75
So you should be looking at a full total of around £1100 to £1200 this will mean in real terms costing you around 7.5k and you have not even touched on any of the other stuff.
If it does need this amount of work then i would expect to pay around 5k to 5.5k for it. Yes its a 3.0 but not in excellent condition so it does not command top buck

Thanks for all the advice, but I think I will find a better one so I have discounted it.
The guy uses it daily for work as his main car, under the bonnet quite a few nuts and bolts rusty and various other bits heading the same way.
The rear bumper had been damaged by someone and had an insurance repair but unfortunately it has got nasty scratch again.
What was interesting was he had left the invoice in the file for what he paid two years ago for it !!
Thanks again for the advice and help.

I said the black one was a little too far off for the cash he was asking. I think you need to throw £2500 to get it where it needs to be - lot of cash and a fair bit of effort too. Just because it says 3.0 on the bot doesn't mean they are worth it regardless.

Like all cars, if you are patient, one will turn up.

A very valid point Bill, one which I often point out. Sometimes you have to "see" cars in the real world. Not many cars of that age are going to be perfect and if they are they will fetch top dollar.:)
