I was wanting to get a reasonable quote for my 3.0 on a classic, limited milage policy. Some of the quotes I've had are silly to say the least (and I'm no boy racer!)

I'm not sure if a classic policy is any better as they reckon you can't use no claims bonus to reduce the price?? Anyone had a different experience?

Anybody who can point me in the right direction it would be a great help.

Manning (Stacey) were not competitive and Flux were having a laugh compared to last year.

PM me if you have some good figures

Cheers

You don't need a no claims bonus with classic car insurance as they make different assumptions. ie that you're going to look after your car and not crash or lose it!

I get a good deal off Footman James, although my mileage is agreed at 3,000 which is obviously too low if your's is an every day driver.

I used Chris Knott this year and got what I think is a good unlimited mileage deal, worth a try.

Thanks a lot chaps, given me a good bench mark. I'm getting somewhere now. 3000 miles loads for me this year... Can anybody shed any light on the alarm system?

They are asking me if the alarm is "cat 1" or "cat 2" and "sat approved"??

I've no clue. Other than it's standard BMW kit from 2000.

If you are over a certain age try SAGA, I've just renewed my Z3 1.9 for £128 fully comp, I was with Aviva and they wanted nearly £300

Regards

Ha ha! Good point. I'm 49 this year. So next year quite possibly opens up the world of retirement apartments and old fart insurance.

As far as I can find all Z3s are Cat 1 Thatcham alarmed (unless modified) including the immobiliser, mind you I'm no expert thats for sure, as for SAT have no idea

Found this
"Thatcham Category 1 – electronic alarm and immobiliser
Systems that fall into this class are the cleverest and most complex on the market. A Category 1 alarm will feature perimeter and ignition detection, and will incorporate movement or glass break and tilt sensors. There’ll also be a siren powered by its own battery supply that will sound if your car gets broken into.

Immobilisers are also a requirement to pass Category 1 tests and have to be passively set – that means without any action from the driver – while a minimum of two operating systems or one control unit used for normal operation must be isolated."

However (and this is not very helpful I'm sorry) but to contradict Thatchams info regarding the Z3 the Vin checker on both mine show Option 302 Alarm. So now I'm a little confused too.

Footman James £230 (2002 3.0 M Sport)

3,000 miles max, agreed value £8,000. As a second car.
Although the agreed value part cost an extra £40.
They were not that concerned about what category the alarm was.
lt's not as if you could steal a Z3 unless you'd got the keys.
And they are not highly sought after so unlikely to get trailered away like a Land Rover Defender.
