2001 3.0 Z3 will not start sometimes on first key up.

Always starts instantly on 2nd try. I can always hear the fuel pump priming on either try. Runs beautifully. Occasional CEL for banks 1 and 2 lean. Always clears up on it's own. Any thoughts??
 
Have you tried not starting the engine immediately, pause for a few seconds before you turn they key to engage the starter motor.
 
Mine does what you describe off and on, if the engine is still warm its more first try, when its cold its usually 2nd try.
I have a 98 2.8L with about 140K miles.
