When I have bought cars from a long way away, I have gone down the whatsapp videos, long telephone calls and web due diligence route. Then got a reputable transport company to give them a once-over when collecting and deliver them to my door.Looks a belter this one and was very tempted myself but I just couldn't overcome the logistics of getting to Montrose and back from Sheffield.
Thought I'd put it up on here in case anyone was closer

Good point - I have used Shiply before so I should at least ask for a quoteWhen I have bought cars from a long way away, I have gone down the whatsapp videos, long telephone calls and web due diligence route. I did get a local forum member on the other forum to look at my Z3 for me before I bought it.
I have bought seven cars in the past 6 years (covid started me on it) without seeing them. Six were not seen by anybody before being delivered. Not had a bad one yet TBH.
Basically, geography shouldn't rule out any car in 2026. There are alternatives.
I have used a few through Shiply. Most extremely good. One just didn't turn up and switched his phone off!!Good point - I have used Shiply before so I should at least ask for a quote![]()
Thanks - I've had a couple of quotes from Shiply around £600 but if you can get me a number that would be appreciatedI have used a few through Shiply. Most extremely good. One just didn't turn up and switched his phone off!!
I have used one company who are not far from you a few times (Wakefield IIRC). They were excellent.
I have found that good transport companies use shiply to 'fill in gaps' in their schedules. The crap ones use shiply to get all their work (cos no-one will use them twice).
I can dig out the name and get a number if you are serious.
£5k for a 26k mile M54 late Z3 is cheap IMO. Chances are it has only ever been out in the dry too!
I will send it via PM.Thanks - I've had a couple of quotes from Shiply around £600 but if you can get me a number that would be appreciated![]()
I had considered that but unfortunately the seller has decided to let it go without an MOT and has now gone quiet regarding a suitable collection date - I did get a quote of £425 for the transportation which I thought was very good.I sold an E34 520i to a guy from Scotland who booked a hire car one way only. Picked up from Inverness and dropped off in Mansfield and it wasn't that dear.
Do that, drive the Z3 home. It'll be a fantastic drive home as well via Dundee, Glenrothes and Edinburgh involving two spectacular bridges. Then down the A1 coast road - a long but super summer evening drive.
