Exactly mate, I couldn't agree more. What is ironic is that the 2.8 will probably be a struggle to move on as people will think it's too old and will incur huge repair bills!
 
You may well be right Simon our cars, particularly the bigger engine ones , are now enthusiast cars only. I had a 2.8 and its a fantastic car and not that bad on petrol either. Running costs will be well down compared to a modern BMW.

Would be a crying shame to break that, you don't see many 2.8's meeting that end .

I agree but if people aren't buying whole cars then they may more readily buy parts off of a good car to keep theirs running and in good condition?
 
True enough but putting that amount into a long term selling project need a fairly deep pocket.

Still breaking is not the best way in my view i paid that for my 2.8 and considered it a bargain.
If you mate has space and time on his hands and can wait to sell stuff in dribs and drabs maybe its an answer but its too good to be a breaker and if you look at what you can sell and work it out he may break even but not recoupe his lost time or hassle.
 
I've just told him to be patient, it will sell when the weather turns and, as already advised, he should put together a proper ad for it. Its a very nice car so he shouldn't give it away.
 
That will 100% sell at that price but he just needs to be patient and get as many ads out there as possible (gumtree/ autotrader / pistonheads etc)

at that price the trader will offer £1500 id imagine knowing that he could sell it for 3k+ later in the year
