2.8 Z3 fuel filter

By the very nature of it being a filter will mean that it will do its job and stop impurities from getting to the pointy end of things. Like any filter, there will be a build-up of crud over time so will need changing and can only improve how the car runs no matter how minor. Well worth doing.

Edit: every 36,000 miles so if it's original, well overdue.

That's 18 years till I'll need to change mine again then!

I had to order the two smaller 'O' rings from Bmw when i did mine as they where not present they are just pence.
As i was in the vicinity of Sytners today I called in to get some O rings,as you said Ant turns out they have to order them in,will be here Friday a.m.
Would of thought they'd have plenty in stock, makes you wonder if they bother with them in the workshop when they replace oil filters.

They have a Z4 ///M on an 07 plate, just under £23k. Looked very nice indeed.
Shame to see it sat outside in the cold and rain.

Steve

I ordered mine too as you say thought they may be stock but may be the newer cars are not the same ..

More than that Tony. I do 2000-2500 a year, badboy does around 500! So that's 72 years lol!

What you doing up at 1.30am Steve? Been out for a spin! :rally:
Making sure you get up for work on time :p.

Can't sleep lately, get to bed and can't switch off .

Was tempted to go out for a spin the other night,it was relatively mild, dry and calm.......and about 2a.m.

:wideyed:. That may classify you as a weirdo mate. 2am night driving with the roof down!
On a serious note tho. I don't look at my phone after I've had my tea now apart from when i'm away over night and I am sleeping much better. Try it it may just help.

Might just give that a try, thanks happy feet :).

Steve, if you clamp the short rubber connector on the rear end of the filter all you can lose is the fuel inside the lifter itself. But the new filter should come with a "cap" on either end mate so having loosened both the jubilee clips pull the connector off the front of the filter and fit one of the caps from the new filter. Swing the front end down and pull the connector off the rear and just put your finger over the end of the filter till you get it out from under the car.

Tony.
@t-tony your advice was most helpful today when I replaced the fuel filter .
I disconnected the battery, just to be on the safe side and then set to.
Couldn't find anything small enough to use as a hose clamp so I just went for it,expecting to get sprayed in petrol.
But nothing apart from a drip or two from the inlet side :),with a plastic tray at the ready I then pulled of the hose on the outlet and still no deluge.
Once the old filter was away from the car I emptied the contents into a container, clean as a whistle from the outlet side, but quite mucky from the inlet side.
I don't think it was the original filter as there wasn't a BMW logo on it,in fact there was no makers markings on it at all, just the directional arrow.
Oil and filter changed as well,so quite a busy afternoon :).
So all set for Donington now a week tomorrow .

Sounds like a group cruise under the stars is on the cards Steve

I have driven home from our Abbie's a couple of times late evening in the summer with the top down and it's brilliant. Only downside is all the wildlife living in your hair when you get home.:( Oh!, and all the flies stuck to your headlights and mirrors and front bumper etc. the next morning.

I agree it's good fun, especially on a mild summers night, you get some funny looks but who cares .

Was going to put a post up the other night to see if anybody fancied a blast, but no one was up,it was very early hours though ;).
I was up but my car is still under a bit of snow but shouldn't be for long as we're looking at temps way above seasonal and it's +7c right now and will be around that for about a week!!

Mine is a 2000, 3.0i. I have ordered the MAHLE filter, but looking at earlier threads I'm not sure what additional parts I should buy, i.e. 'O' rings (where are these placed?), & rubber sleeve connectors for the fuel and vacuum lines? Can anyone advise, please.
