Good morning, I have removed my air filter box from my 2.2i Z3 (M54B22) and to my surprise there is a resonator box bolted to it and a branch connection from the rubber boot. I have identified the rubber boot and resonator box as E39/E38 parts via Realoem. The resonator box is bolted to the filter box by, what appear to be, OEM bolts. My car was manufactured in December 2000, the filter box dated November 2000 and the resonator box August 2000.

Is this the OEM set up, or has the resonator box been added later, please? I have also found an eBay listing for a 3.0i filter box that has a resonator box attached - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116310669071

Mine also had the res box fitted and I swapped for the setup without but I regret that because it now has a air whistle noise

Thanks for your reply JP701. I note from one of your other posts that your 2.2i is from the same year as mine, and I guess that it is possible that resonator boxes were fitted for at least a period of the 2.2i construction.

I have decided to retain mine because of the post by Tim (Timm's BMW Repairs and Information on YouTube & meeknet.co.uk) on Bimmerforums – https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1889266-Intake-resonator-I-want-to-get-rid-of-it

I am not an expert, but I note that you are having idle problems – when did you remove the resonator?

As a general question is Tim now a member of Zroadster.org given that he now owns a Z4?
