This might be a surprise to some of you, but I've been considering getting rid of my car. Well, parting it out. It needs a full paint job, has a gearbox issue and some rear end clunking. I've spent thousands on it and just don't want to keep going down that route as I fear another 2k will bring it to an acceptable standard. For a car probably worth max 4k (6k in parts)

I've seen a face-lift 2.0 that I really like but I'm worried about performance.

I have a prefacelift 2.8 with performance upgrades probably running 210bhp and sounding great.

And I going to be distraught at the difference? Haha

I'm trying to find a local car to drive and test for myself.

Have a run down to Barnsley Davy, they're really quite friendly down there mate, honest. Tony's car is awesome, looks awesome and sounds awesome. You won't know if you will like till you try it mate.

Tony.

That’s an lovely car that 2.0 with so many nice extras.
Could always engine swap it later down the line with a 2.2 / 2.8 / 3.0 facelift donor car...

Hi Davy before I decided to put it up for sale I had looked at doing the inlet manifold swap it is the same part no as the 2.8 so would be a straight swap and a remap not a slow car but obviously a little slower than the 2.8 but sure would get the same gains as other people that have done this mod for not a lot of money to give it a bit more power best of both worlds if you have seen my EBay add I have put a deposit on an f type convertible subject to seeing it cheers tony

Stick the 2.8 in the 2.0. They’re both M52 so share the same looms. The gearbox will also line up. It will be a very simple plug n play swap.

Off topic, but are both m52 and m52tu looms the same?

Not if one is a TU. it’s only the Throttle body connection that differs on the loom. I have two 2.8 TU throttle bodies if you needed one.

you’ll also have to look at what type of traction control they both have so you can transfer it over.

Sorry talking out my ass. You will need the engine loom from the 2.8. As the TU is a twin vanos. But it will still be plug n play.

Engine swap is far beyond my capabilities. Zed shed might have a booking incoming if I did go for it

If you keep the 2.8 it will be a straight forward swap for us.

So I would keep the 2.0 gearbox with my 2.8 m52? Gearbox is awful on my car

If the gearbox was in good condition we could. Something happening in the background at the moment is 6 speed gearbox conversion. Might be the better way to go. We also could repair your box, I have one in this week for sorting.

Ill get myself a test drive in a 2.0 close to me and then if I like it I might not even need to swap. Carrying an engine and a z3 to the zedshed would be the biggest hurdle haha

You would just bring over both cars and leave it with us for a few days. You might like the 2.0 if your not so much a speed freak. The 2.0 needs a little ringing to get her moving.

I wouldnt say I'm a speed freak. I certainly stick to the limits 99% of the time but I love to get 7200rpm out of it in 2nd which gets me to 70mph then into 5th lol. Sounds and feels great
