Hello from the Central Coast of California near San Luis Obispo along Hwy 101. I am in the process of purchasing a 1997 BMW Z3 1.9L that has a soft top but no hard top. Where might I be able to locate a hard top for it? I have thought about going to an auto body / repair shop to have them locate one and paint it. Any suggestions? Or, if I elect not to get a hard top, what should I prepare to do to ensure that the current soft top does not leak? How expensive and difficult is it to replace the soft top and are there different types of materials for selection? My location gets very hot in the summer months, but we do sometimes get some significant rain (when we are not in drought conditions). And any advice that you may be able to offer for a newbie about to make a Z3 purchase would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

G'day Walter. There are a variety of soft top materials and many or maybe all soft tops are made in US. Just google bmw z3 soft tops. Why on earth would you want to bung a hard top on a Z3?

Hi and welcome from Leicestershire uk, if I lived in California I wouldn't bother with a hard top, perhaps a good quality cover for nights if you've not got a garage, hard top and paint could be expensive, put the money into a new soft top, and still have change:thumbsup:
