1.9 Z3 v 2.8 Z3

I brought my 2.8 purely on body style.I drove a few 1.9's and they perform well, i just wanted the rear end of a prefacelift 2.8.
Not sure if you may find the 1.9 alittle underwhelming after the ///M i know its being used for a different purpose but if it leaves you feeling a bit lackluster a 2.8 may give you the balance between the 1.9 and the 3.2 ?
All great cars and for economy the 1.9 will always prove well but its getting yourself a balance you can live with....

Spot on Antm72, the rear body style of the preface lift is my favourite. The sensible choice is the 1.9 for what I want it for. Intent to view a 1.9 this afternoon so will keep an open mind. Thanks, Ian

You're welcome. Before I bought my 2.8 I never even considered a smaller engine tbh,thinking it wouldn't have enough power.
Perhaps if I had,I would have bought one,just go's to show you shouldn't rule anything out until you've driven one.
 
Love my 1.9 although have recently driven the 2.0 straight six not much quicker but much smoother. Big differance recently did a fill to fill check on the 1.9 on the Cotswold cruise, returned a very impressive 43 mpg best out of the 2.0 33 mpg big difference.
 
Went to view and test drive a Boston Green Z3 1.9 this afternoon. Love at first sight still exists!
Car seems in good body (just a corroded driver side mirror plinth) and mechanical condition, M44 engine, drives very well (taut and no obvious rattles), green leather heated seats, cruise control, a BMW rear spoiler (which seems to suit the car), aircon, wooden centre consul and wooden BMW steering wheel (jury's out on this but it's different, don't think I have seen one before on a Z, and sort of goes well with the green interior). Didn't spot any woodworm! Full service history from original sales invoice onward, only 4 owners from new.
Have left a deposit and agreed to pay just over £2K with a new MOT (to be done tomorrow). Just told her indoors who now has "the need" for a new handbag. Will post up some pictures in due course in case any one is interested in seeing it.
These cars represent amazing value for money at present, an equivalent standard MGB (of which I have had a number over the years) would be over £10K.
Finally, I would like to thank all above for the most helpful comments. This car will be very different from the MC but likely just as much fun in a different way. :)

Sounds like you've found a well spaced unit and I''m jealous you'll have CC to only drive it in urban traffic. I may need you to guide me as to where all the parts go once I've collected them all. Good luck and I love the green seats and Boston Green! JIM
 
That sounds very nice Ian,must say I do like the green with green interior. Completes the retro look and like you say very cheap compared to an MGB etc.

Your car looks great Jim, very similar to the one I have bought. If I can help with reference to your cruise install will be pleased to help with pictures etc, not expert on the spanner stuff though.:)

I have driven a couple of Z4 four cylinder engined models and also found them lively and fun to drive.

Thank you and yes, BMW aero spoiler and (I think) aero front bumper, but not sure what one looks like! The original owner was keen on options (aircon, cruise, heated leather seats, 16" wheels, windbreak, OBC, front passenger airbag, heated washer nozzles, headlight washer system). With 4 owners, full service history and 76K miles I was very lucky to find this.:)
