True Tony but certain brands won't buy back or if they do they insist it goes through there own workshop for main dealer last stamp in the book even if said car was serviced recently and doesn't need servicing.
If they do agree to take it back they will really punish you on trade in price for non main dealer stamps.
I am talking top end marques not going to name any of them but do know a few.
:)
It's not just the high end brands Tracy, most Audi dealers wont have a retail car for sale on their forecourt unless it has Audi history.

Not sure about BMW, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're the same.

But for warranty issues you just have to use approved parts, and use a Vat registered garage, like Tony says.

I use independents once my cars are over 5 years old, or occasionally I'll use the main dealers if a car has a full dealer history, just to carry it on.

But the prices are getting ridiculous.

Just haggle at main dealer to get a better price saying you can get it done elsewhere less expensive
All you can do to get a bit of a discount only thing I would say all works guaranteed at main dealer no question.
You pays your money you takes your choices as they say.:)

I get that, and that is tantermount to blackmail. But I suppose if you can afford to buy such vehicles you should be able to pay for their up keep?

Tony.

Same thing applies to any garage. Everybody has to warrant their own work.

The chap I've been speaking to is talking to his manager today, he mentioned they may be able to price match, I'll update when I've heard back.

Main dealer servicing also get's you any updates due for the car, although I'm not sure how important that actually is?

I've been known to punish them back a few times.

Taken the car I've just bought for an inspection/Mot and called them with issues they should have seen/sorted.

They often say "well it passed an Mot"

I reply "but your website says you prepare cars to the highest standard"

And some didn't even pass an Mot.

The franchises look at the whole life potential profit on a sale. They are prepared to lose some profit on a sale to someone who will come back every year for a service.

If they know that the only profit they will make from you is at sale time, be prepared to be screwed when you buy.

I'm surprised that they are not pushing electric cars much harder, as it is only the franchises that are set up to service or repair them.
