Being a 2.8 owner is love nothing more for my £2600 purchase to be worth north of £10k but it's pipe dream stuff. It's never worth that figure and won't be for many years to come, and that is if it doesn't turn any more miles.
It's a bitter sweet for me. We'd all love to see our little bit of investment quadrupled but on the other hand i think its ridiculous the price people think these cars are worth. It prices the everyday man out if what should be an affordable classic.

@GazHyde, just out of interest, what did you do with your old LR?
Sold it to a mate, he still has it although don't think it's been on the road for a year or so.

To be honest mate not really interested in the price of my Zed going up, I've told the off-spring I'm getting buried in it (preferably when I'm V old and V dead).

Its not about that mate, its about all the money people spend on their cars, then have a crash and get bugger all back from from the insurance company.
Mine was totaled, mainly because a new bonnet was quoted by BMW at 1100 euro......

It depends on your take on this matter I have had many cars in the past that are simply stupid money now that we're mass produced but a bit out of the ordinary. Mk1 Mexico, Capri 2.8, sierra 3 door cosworth, BMW 635, v12 E type
To name a few. At the time I owned them they were affordable , the z3 with the larger engines are quite a unique car being a small car with big engine. There is certainly nothing being produced now or in the recent past to compare it with. The boxster is big and specialist the TT and Mercedes are soft in comparison. My opinion for what it's worth is they will hold there own and go up in value.

Me neither mate, that's what I was saying. It's worth so much more to me than any amount of money. Good times past and ahead and good friends. Bugger the money!

My thoughts exactly.
Many decent classics are now priced out of reach of true enthusiasts, squirrelled away in dehumidified lock ups by investors.
Which is why people are looking to cars like the Z3.
Mine attracted loads of interest at a Classic Car show a couple of weeks ago.
Everybody loved the Testarossa and E-Type nearby, but saw the Z3 as a car they could actually own.
And a good Z3 3.0 M Sport is a damn fine car to drive.
Mine replaced, in order, a Lotus Elise S2, Ferrari Mondial t, Porsche 928 S4 and, um, a 1932 Standard Little Nine.
So it had to follow some pretty decent stuff.

Part of me hopes that the Z3 will stay affordable and not go the way of many other older BMW's.
But l fear that good ones will go up, unless the Classic Car market collapsed. It could happen if interest rates rise.

Not true!
Many older cars were "mass produced" and not that inspiring when new.
Have you seen how much a MK1 Ford Escort costs now?
And you can pay £5,000 for that classic of classics, a Cortina MK4.
True, but just how many are left of these cars you mention? Not the same thing with Z3's,.......... not yet, and not by a long way.20 years down the line maybe.

Tony.

With many cars it is the rarity that makes them collectable. But plenty of E28+635 BMW's left, also Lotus Elise most are still on the road. Porsche 928 911 968 plus others majority of production still exist, TVR same again.
All these more modern cars are increasing in value.
l think it's likely that the best examples of the Z3 3.0 and 2.8 will follow suit. It's only my opinion from watching the classic car market. I'm happy to be proven wrong.

The thing with the Z3 is, l think it's the best of both worlds, classic looks but with reliability and able to be used day to day.
I think in time people will catch on. Somehow the Z3 doing it better than it's closest rival, the Boxster.
And more exclusive than a Mazda MX5.

My dog and wife were free and are now priceless (agreed value not available). Written off the cost of my Zs, which are now also priceless (but have agreed value just in case). Running costs of all are low, with one exception. More than my life is worth to state which one.:)

Moral is enjoy what you have, price is only relevant if you are buying or selling. Have fun, you only live once.

I think that prices will creep up but will not shoot up the way some other modern classics have.
l was looking at the Clio Williams today and they've shot up. Plus have you seen 205gti prices now?
