What is the reception like? My coupe had a stubby metal aerial fitted when I bought it and reception was atrocious.

In the garage I found one that fitted - from an old Smart ForTwo I used to own years ago - it's very large but the result was that signal was night & day better on all FM stations - so I kept it! I'd like a smaller one but only if it doesn't mean I'm constantly having to retune Radio2

That, my friend, is called a 'whubby'.

It really is a 'thing' in the Z4 world. honest.

Apparently a stubby is frowned upon in the Z4 forum e89 world. Well stuff them I have one on mine and I think it looks more OEM then the OEM one and its staying. 😁

It's about 50-50. Some like a whippy, some like a stubby, some even like a whubby.
I have a stubby on my current E89, as it came with the car. I prefer a whippy but can't be arsed to change it.

That’s the one I favour, I also have one without the pigtail running round the mast.

I remember the time it was all chrome on here and I tried a polished alloy mast😬

I have two ariels
A small one for when my car cover is on
I have had it for years
Been in the draw of thing I bought but never used

Then I have the standard bmw Ariel
For everyday usage

To be honest the reception is the same with both ariels but I only have a cheap £7 alli express stereo
The car came with an aftermarket radio with a flip front and it looked awful and sounded terrible
So I ordered a cheap one with bluetooth and I am made up with it sounds good with Qbuz
it was a straight swap and my phone works hands free

and its why china is a major threat to the western world.
in 5 years they will dominate all electrical goods, and hold the key to anything ''electrical'' as far base components and raw minerals,
it was only a few years ago the vehicle industry (and others) came to a stand still due to lack of micro chips.
imagine if that became a manipulation threat to the western world....
