my z failed its mot today on:
osr brake pipe to rear caliper excessively corroded , ball joint dust cover excessively deteriorated and the hand brake efficiency below requirements.

i knew the handbrake was below par and was going to ask the garage to adjust the shoes.
i thought i would get a quote for the work excluding handbrake adjustment the shoes were done in the last 6 months.
how much £400.00 yes that's correct £400.00 what a bargain !! normally i would do all of this myself but am struggling with time. the ball joint was replaced last year so that didn't last to long !

taking the car into a local place friday for them to have a look

Did you see my post? Garage wanted £250 to replace both rear brake pipes.
I have decided to do a full refurb of most of the rear end and do it all myself.
I will be making my own pipes this weekend if weather permits.

That's a bit steep reckon you'd easily get that work done for half or less than that.

yes some of these garages seem to be very keen on their prices!

yes i did. good job your doing on your z

i have done the the brake pipe and hoses on the other side but am struggling with my time at the moment, hopefully the other garage will be a lot more reasonable. my beam bushes need replacing and i have had a quote from scotts performance in dartford who will do them and one trailing arm (have done one side) for £250 so will go down that route once mot,d. hopefully after that some paint and then for sale as i have a 944 in the garage that's been sat for four years that needs some tlc

Martyn at Scott’s knows his BMW subframes, he usually always has an e46 M3 in for major surgery, they literally rip the floor out, makes the Z3 issues look minor! That’s a good price for that job, most garages want a days labour.
He knows Porsche very well too...

This is one of the reasons why I started doing work myself. The garages in my area are all out to rip people off. Glad you got it sorted for a reasonable price.

Agreed, do my own work too and I'm happy it's been done to my standards

The other benefit is that I can keep the stable going!!
