MK 3 spitfire, nice, had a white one in the late 70s.:)

For information, the September 1997 price list and specification for 1.9 and 2.8 clearly states that "Fitment of a towbar is not permitted". I would assume that it is a structural limitation.
It wasn't a Mk 3, it was a Mk 1, I kept modifying it to look newer. Only 1147CC. :)

Fooled me as the MK 3 had the raised bumper. The wheels look like "Cosmics"?

Also had a MK3 GT6 in 1980, 6 years old then and rusty as a rusty thing. Enjoyed the car but it rattled worse than previous MGB, even though it had a fixed roof. Happy days.:)

I also had a GT6, one of the very last mk4. insurance companies didn't like me though as I was only 18 at the time!
Boot floor rotted out and seem to spend most saturday mornings balancing the Strombergs!
The ladies liked it though! ;)

I think when you see her you will all be surprised at how discrete the bar is when viewed under the rear bumper. On the above starter notete I have added some pictures regarding work I had to do on the rear valence? Where water drains from the boot housings. These cars are designed to allow water to "vent" out when it ingresses. Its odd to see it when you take them apart but there are huge vents and gaps in the panel work to allow water to escape. As part of putting her back together each panel has been Zinc grey sprayed and then spray Waxoiled (the good sticky black stuff) see pic. The fitting back together and spray waxoiling has taken some time... but picture soon to follow.

Job found for the future though, Rear end sub frame Strip and rebuild because of possible corrosion.. (i live near the Sea). I wont know until Winter 2018 when the garage is finished. I shall sand blast the metal work review and either buy new or repair, respray, recoat and rebuild.

Also fit new Brembo Porsche brakes to the front to handle the extra power from the new engine refit / rebuild. Hopefully I'll end up with Z3M+ power... in a sleeper.. All good fun..

The towing limit on the Z3 up to 2000 (not beyond that year!! Why I don't know!!) is 1/2 tonne only
you cannot tow over that, else you could bend your sub frame when braking. Mind you there's nothing stopping you stiffening it up with extra metal work if you know where to put it. The external Sills are Hollow and I reckon could take a reinforcing tube, front to back with a bit of clever engineering and welding, Plus you could then create anchor points on the sills and cross brace. Not for me though.

I see that's a 1.9. I think you can fit them on all models up to 2001. If you keep the power to weight ratio right you should have no problems. The only thing I think of now is that with the extra HP coming from the new engine refit and rebuild soon. I will have to do some strengthening in the Sills and under body. This is because I think even with 1/2 tonne on the back with the extra power you could feasibly pull her apart or bend her with the extra power.
