Budget Tyres

I know a lot of you guys won't entertain them but I am giving these ago, I have heard good things about them so checked the reviews and they too are excellent, £110 for a pair of rears 255 35 18, they look great but will see how they perform next week,

As you state not to every ones taste, I had budgets fitted to a company mondeo some years back. The car was all over the road when wet. Luckily only had it on temporary basis but on that experience I'm sorry to say that I would Never have budgets on my cars and that is what I have also advised my boys on their cars.
But hey, this is only my own personal opinion, be interesting to see how you get on with them.

There are budgets and there are s*** budgets, take a look at reviews, they are all very different, I had excellon budgets on the rear and they where as good as anything I have had and far better some, the dry grip was amazing and the wet was also very good.

Be interesting to see how you get on at speed and bad weather Sean. I have only ever bought Continentals for the past 7 years. They stick to the road very well you just don't get many miles of a set of rears. Around 10k. Also cost around 340 for a pair of rears

£110 for a pair of tyres is not the end of the world if they don't work out, the ratings on the tyres seem good enough too, let us know how you get on with them pls @Sean d.

Yes that was good fun @Mint and my zed had budget rear tyres on then.
I can't remember them having any trouble with grip at all,we weren't exactly hanging about either. I remember one "puddle" washed up over the bonnet,it caught me unawares but the car stayed true .
These aren't just fair weather fun cars

I ran them and found them quiet and dry grip was supurb .
My zed is not really a wet weather car and if out would not have pushed hard anyway but they appeared ok .

I have been searching for a while for 4 tyres for my new summer wheels, and was not sure what to do as It is an expensive time after buying, refurbishing, and now having to put tyres on the wheels

Nankangs, Toyo T1R's, Landsails, Delinte, Goodride, Haida's, Roadstone, Rotalla's etc etc. what to get?
Nokian's are supposed to be superb (but asymmetric).
Had Nankangs and they have been good, the Toyo's are allegedly lethal in the wet, but all about £50 a corner
Have been looking on the tyre review sites and it seems the EU ratings mean jack, with E rated outperforming B rated etc etc.
So I chickened out from the Haida's Rotalla's etc, and have gone with Hankooks which the review site said were very good. They are Ventus K12 Evo2's.... but cost more at £280 for 4 off 225/40 18's, and I'm still not sure I shouldn't have gone with Uniroyals....

Apparently Uniroyal Rainsports also get a very good review and were similar price, The reason I went with the Hankooks is you can rotate on wheel to even out tyre wear on a lowered car, but the Uniroyals (and Nokians) being asymmetric, can't be done.
I thought should I be worried if they don't grip as good, because I don't mind the sliding a bit when I want to,
my worry was some of the stopping distances were terrible with some of the budgets, and thats when I don't want to slide..
Like you say, some budgets outperform the named makes. Its a mine field out there.

But those new tyres look nice.....
Am I sad?

You cant rotate assymetric Tyres but you can move them to the other side of the car. I did on my Z3.

Most asymmetric tyres should only be fitted in one specific orientation left and right

That's why most of them have 'outside' molded into one sidewall

Which is crap if you have camber so symmetrical tyres needed

Ive used hankook ventus before and they are great.

Interested to hear how you get on with you landsails... I don't have high hopes

Best tyres i have ever had in the wet are Toyo's, run them for years on my cars and vans, not the hardest wearing tyres but cracking in both the dry and wet. Tyres (and Brake Pads) are subjects where there is no right and wrong I suppose, each of use uses these consumable items in different ways, it comes down to what suits us and or driving style.

yes but moving asymmetric to the other side of the car still has inside edge wear on the inside, so what is the benefit?,
Rotational can be turned on the wheel and then the wheels swapped left to right, That way the inside worn edge is now on the outside prolonging the tyre life.

Not if they are asymmetric and rotational, which lots of decent tyres are. They have 'OUTSIDE' clearly on the sidewall for that reason.

Asymmetric tyres have different block patterns and sometimes compounds on the outer and inner shoulders for very specific reasons.

Putting them on the 'wrong' side is also an MOT fail same as putting a unidirectional tyre on the wrong way round
