Hi, bought my 2.8 1998 Z3 just less than 2 months ago. Initially over the moon with my lovely little car and was looking forward to improving this 90,000 mile, 18 year old example. Not after a concourse car, just mechanically good original.
Anyway, first job was the seat drive bushes, easy job, great guide from Zroadster. Upon fitment of seats found carpets saturated both sides. Can only find leaks on passenger side so far, so how is water getting in drivers side.
Second issue, found broken spot weld in boot, you guessed it, Diff mount beam undoing itself and also cracked upon further investigation. What joy.
So what was going to be a steady improvement as time/money allows, when not getting in the way of enjoying the car, is now almost the opposite.
This will not put me off the potential pleasure I can have (sorry I'm an optimist) once these minor obstacles are overcome.
I will investigate the water leaks and if anyone has any suggestions then please help, the car lived outside for 3 years and the carpets were dry when I got the car, its the under carpet foam thats soaked up the water.
I live in Devon so would be interested in meets or drives etc and sharing information on future Z3 maintenance.
Thats it from me, Cheers.

Hi and welcome from The Vale of Glamorgan.
Whilst the seats were out, you didn't peel back the carpets by any chance. The foam is quite thick in places and can hold a lot of water. Maybe peel them back and put in a dehumidifier for a few days.
Good luck..

:welcome: to the Forum from West Cumbria. The water ingress could be a number of things; windows not butting up against the seals due to age of the seals. May just need some conditioning? The roof may be a tad out of kilter also?

What part of Devon are you from Dave? There aren't many meets in the south west but we travel to the ones further afield. We're doing the Euro run in June and the Lakes in August. Just done the Cotswold trip too.

Evening Dave, It's not classic car ownership without a bit of fettling. and the odd damp carpet! Lets have some photos of your Zed. These cars are well worth the effort.

Cheers Jonno

Hi and welcome from Surrey, water inside can come from the front corner where the soft top meets the windscreen. I am sure there have been posts on here about it but I cannot find them at the moment. I am sure someone will point you in the right direction. :welcome:

Welcome,
I got a 2.8 about 2 months ago too.
I also had a stinker it was with the roof.
What is the plan of action for the rear end then?
Care to share some photos of the car?
Message me if you want a second pair of hands for working on the car.
Reference the meet ups in South West I'm quite new but if there's enough of us dartmoor probably has the best roads down this way.
Cheers
Sam
