We were switched over to this set up last Monday and up to now it's proving to be a very bad move. Internet connection keeps dropping and takes a while to reconnect. I can't watch any streamed content (ie. Kodi on Amazon Fire stick) any Sky catch up, any YouTube videos) . Driving me and Shirl batty, has anyone else had a similar experience please?

Yes mate. We had BT broadband and it was terrible. Had the same problems as your having, forever crashing out. We had Virgin which was superb but we find them greedy and constantly putting up prices so we switched. We had nothing but trouble so as soon as the contract was up we switched back to Virgin.

@t-tony when you say the Internet connection keeps dropping, how frequent is it? Quite a lot of new routers have power saving features built into them which turn them off after about half an hour or so.

Is it on one device or does it seem to disconnect on multiple devices?

If its dropping connection its service if not it will be the wifi config causing intermitancy it can be reconfigured and should improve its stability.

It's constantly dropping internet connection, the WIFI signal is good. When I go to a streaming item it runs for approx. 28 seconds and stops which I believe is in the parental controls, which I can't access. I'm also getting security certificate reminders for most sites? On the old system although slow it was no where near as bad as this is. We run several devices at the same time and always have. I have a range extender for the WIFI, could this be affecting anything? We did a speed test on Tuesday night where we got 5-7mps download but 20 ish upload speed. Tonight I'm getting 20.8 download and 17.6 upload which seems better.

Everything loses connection mate, and it definitely not a power saving feature as we're both constantly using desktop, iPad(s) and my phone is always on WIFI too so it doesn't have chance to go to sleep!

To rule out the WiFi connectivity or any sort of signal interference it may be worth connecting directly via an ethernet cable.

I say you try this. Get an ethernet cable and connect one end to the router and the other to your laptop/desktop computer. Try stream video or browse the net as you normally would and see what the connection is like. This way you can establish whether there's some sort of interference in the signal or whether the problem lies with BT themselves.

I, personally wouldn't class The Grand Tour as porn young Albert, but there's no accounting for taste, obviously.;)=))=))

I'm sure the streaming issue is a totally separate thing Faheem, simply cured by getting into the parental control section. The connection dropping problem is by far the biggest headache for us.

I've heard that BT Internet isn't very reliable.

I also watched Watchdog and they showed how to improve your connection.

Don't have your router need power cables. Christmas lights. Microwave. Fridge.
Consider moving it.

Don'y worry about your upload mate but your download is well fast enough at 20 mbps, to me it sounds like something is affecting your Wifi, get back to basics and remove anything other then the hub, the hub also works on a level of channels that can be switched, however if all devices are dropping out wouldn't think thats your problem, also it might be worth removing the front lower section of your telephone point, just 2 small screws and plugging your hub direct to the master socket,
The main test is to plug in direct with an RJ45 (ethernet cable) and see how it streams

Thank you Steve, no, it lives on top of Shirl's display cabinet away from every thing. The annoying thing is that we were unhappy with BT and were told that Fibre optic was the way to improve it as they recently placed a hub for this system about 300 yds. from our gate. I usually watch WFTV.com in the evenings (TV news streaming from Florida) and it does the same thing even on my iPad ( but I can watch this on work's WIFI with no problem?) it just stops after around 30 secs. I have just tried to watch Hugh's family video and the same thing, at 31 secs.

Got the same problem with my mates wifi that I am using from down stairs in his office, not complaining though, as I am not paying for it....:D
Just restart my PC and back online.

I will ring BT tomorrow Sean and see what they have to say, I may end up just reverting to our original system and forget progress mate. All devices cease connection together but on my iPad the WIFI signal is still full strength.

It sounds like your router is in the best place.

Tony, I can't stand BT but if you are getting 20 mbps download when you do a speedtest it should work fine, you may well have a faulty router, I was a media engineer with VM, its well worth removing the front of your telephone point as the connections can corrode, however I think your hub is at fault
