Wanted M52 Camshaft Position Sensor # 12141703221

Thanks but I'm already some way down that road. The consensus is that only the Siemans BMW part will work correctly and these are now unobtainable. I ordered the BMW item from Sytner BMW and they cancelled my order presumably because BMW don't have it. Several people have also said that the Continental VDO (bought Siemans) part is also problematic. I've tried a chinese part and that wasn't recognised by the DME and I have a Meyle item on the way but I suspect that isn't going to work either.

The amount of stuff that's NLA is concerning. Bosch and Siemens have discontinued MAF's, air flow meters, idle control valves, ABS sensors. You cannot buy ABS sensors for an E34 5 Series anywhere.
My 1989 E32 730i with the M30 engine desperately needs an idle control valve - BMW have stock but they are....get this.....£430. And are they proper Bosch? I suspect I will need to adapt a later one from an E46 to fit, assuming it even works as it should.
 
May be OK with a Meyle one Steve I fitted one to my M54 a few years back with no problems. Yes, I know, kiss of death and all that ;)

An update on this; what I thought was the ICV playing up might not have been. Well it was but they have 12v and two switched earth signals from the ECU to open/close it. After trying two used ones and a new aftermarket one I was becoming convinced it was another sensor giving the ECU incorrect signals. Well, the febi coolant temp sensor had well over 2 ohms of resistance and not the 1.4 ohms it should have. I fitted a spare Bosch one and hey presto, 1.4 ohms and it seems to run a lot better. I need to try a cold start and give it a proper run to make sure.

Febi stuff used to be very good but I've had some real crap from them of late.
