First visit to the Zedshed Cymru this year for Julians Z3, couple of jobs required doing, loose positive battery connection and replacement of one of the heater control illumination bulbs.
Battery compartment had quite a bit of water in the bottom so pulled it out and drained it by rmoving the grommet in the floor. Drilled a hole in the entre of the grommet to aid draining for the future but going to check out the hood drain on that side. Unblocked the fuel filler drain whilst we were about it. Battery clamp not a particulaly good fit when clamped up on the post so roughened up the post by putting some groves in it with a flat blade screwdriver and gave it a clamp up. Incidently the battery seemed to be positioned a bit low in the well for the battery connection + to lay flat against the insulated corner of the well. a few sheets of plastic mat under the battery raised it enough to allow a better fit and still remain under the clamping edge at the front and easy installation of the screw in clamp at the rear. Put a dab of copper ease on the threads of the clamp bolt when refitting it.
Attention turned to the duff bulb in the heater control panel. Radio pulled out and switch panel unclipped at the top and lifted free from bottom pegs. Turned the panel inside the radio space being careful of the control cables and managed to remove the duff bulb behind the fan speed dial with a straigt pull using pliers. The feed wires to the bulb just pull off, its a tiny plug that fits into the base of the combined bulb and housing. New bulb fitted and connected followed by quick test before putting it all back together in reverse order.
Final task to day was to recover the triangular demist vent on drivers side that had become detatched from its underside pipe and had fallen inside the dash. Removed the screws from the footwell panel and pulled it down a little and recovered the vent lying inside. The connecting pipe for it was also detached and we spend some time trying to locate where in fact this connected to at the other end. Eventuall found it slipped over a spigot outlet from the windscreen demister vent. You cannot see this and it had to be located by feel it is a push fit at the dash vent end but a bit sloppy.A coating of Gorilla Glue solved the sloppy fit.
Another visit to be arranged when we will be taking the windscreen scuttle off and cleaning out the drains and debris that has got in there, damp carpet in passenger footwell and this seems the likely cause. Did a quick clean out of the windscreen top rubber and the end drains and blew compressed air down them and a poke with strimmer plastic line.
That wrapped up the session and off Julian went hood down, first dry spell we have had for weeks.
