Hi all.
After a recent service and new cat exhaust few other items very expensive service.
Just wondered if anyone has the following items for 1997 1.9 they might not have fitted or kicking around.
The garage said these items needed replacing at some point so.

Front drop links x2 not sure why as its just had Mot they found no play in them?
Rear shock mounts x2 again no play detected on Mot.

Do people think they need doing?
I have a diff bush already but at service they said my old one was ok? Very confusing.
if anyone has items and think they need doing ?
Let me know
Many thanks.
Tracy.

Did the same garage do the MOT and service? If yes get them to explain the change in view. If no then looks like either the servicing garage is being over-enthusiastic or the MOT garage has missed something important. If neither fault is bad enough to cause a safety issue or consequential deterioration/failure I'd be inclined to leave until the next MOT and see what happens.

You can get a pair of Meyle drop links for £20. I've done mine recently. The labour might be as little as 30 mins.

No idea on the rear shock mounts. Not done them before.

Rear shock top mounts are a simple DIY job as are the drop links. The difference is due to being at MOT time to fail they have to have excessively deteriorated bushes resulting is excessive movement. As a tester you have to take off your service head and use your testing one. Two totally different concepts of what is right and wrong.

I get that. But aren't advisories there to record none failure points of note?

All comes down to testers experience and discression. All rubber components have a certain amount of "give" in them, that's the whole point of using rubber. You have to remember that the MOT test is looking for the MINIMUM acceptable level of safety, as opposed to a servicing mechanic/technician who is trying to sell the maximum level of profit. You can advise on nearly anything on older cars like these, quite often to the detriment of the car itself. Common sense needs to be applied.

Confused now as to who's right service place or MOT ? I guess a person with experience of a Zed would know more as to change or leave ?
I know my rear disc came up on service as corroded and yes I can see the surface has some corrosion so maybe do those first.
As Tony said maybe rubber on from drop links is perished but MOT found no play in items.

I would look at it like this Tracy, I'm a bit cynical to be fair, but after 45 years in this trade it can do that to a person. We on here know how easy it is to fit the Diff. Eye bush, perhaps the servicing garage does not, you already have the bush so they can't sell you it. They can however "suggest" other easier items they "think" need doing to part you from some of your hard earned cash. However I could be wrong.

Tony.

Hi all.
Forget rear shock mounts just ordered 2 Meyle just have to get someone to fit them when they arrive.
I will replace every part that has ever been picked up as maybe needs doing.
Its almost had everything done that has been questioned and more.:D:p
Rear disc will be next due to corrosion.
Tracy.

I bought front and rear disks and pads from Europarts and GSF on one of their discount weekends. generic rears but brembo fronts. Paid £106 for both!

Thanks Paul.
When funds are available I will do the rear discs as really corroded I guess I will need to do the pads as well being new discs.
Eicher discs and pads look the best price at Euro car parts good enough for the rears.
If and when fronts need doing will go for brembo.
My only problem is getting them fitted.

Hi Tracy,
I bought my parts on one of the discount weekends. The rears I bought at GSF (their basic ones with pads). The front Brembos at Europarts, again on a discount weekend.
Hope you are both keeping well.
