Hello all,

I have found a Z4M that I'm very interested in but have a question about the service intervals. The last inspection 2 was carried out at 40,000 miles in 2015, the last inspection 1 at 22,000 miles in 2009. The car now has 58,000 miles. When are the next inspection 1/2's due? I don't know if they are purely mileage based or if there a time limit as well.

Thanks in advance,

Pete

Service periods depend on how the car has been driven and it what conditions the car will tell you when they are due.

Inspection 1 and Inspection 2 are specific service requirements depending on the mileage and service indicated in your instrument cluster. Service Inspections alternate: Inspection 1 comes first, followed by Inspection 2, then back to Inspection 1. Inspection 1 tasks are performed at every service; when you reach Inspection 2, you perform the tasks related to an Inspection 1 and the additional Inspection 2 tasks. These service intervals are performed when INSPECTION is displayed in the cluster. The first Inspection 1 is usually around 30,000 miles and the first Inspection 2 is around 60,000 miles. Other items serviced at specific mileage intervals are, 60,000 miles spark plugs and 100,000 oxygen sensors. Every two years the brake fluid needs to be changed.

This sounds like an example of a car that has not had many miles put on it and therefore has only been maintained to suit.
Although this is not a problem in itself, many people would highly recommend changing oil sooner than the service indicator calls for, rather than only servicing the car every 5 years.

In my opinion, it sounds like a poorly maintained car that requires a little catching up on the maintainance. But you often never know what has been done in-between the inspection stamps.

I would say the next service is due approximately 3 years ago. 😉

Thanks for your replies guys. I didn't go and look at it, I've decided to sell my current car so that I've got a bit of cash in hand bargaining power. That seems like the right way round to do things. I would consider a car with poor history (for the right price) as I will be having the rod bearings replaced and the vanos sorted any way.
