Found this interesting pamphlet in the document pack which seems to be a mix of marketing and technology. It has some rather interesting descriptions in it, such as:
"To safely master their staggering power and performance, the Z4 M Roadster/Z4 M Coupe has a particularly large and efficient high-performance brake system featuring compound brake discs. The big difference from conventional brake discs is that compound brake discs feature a radial anti-friction bearing for the brake disc ring. This floating system allows free thermal expansion of the disc rings. Due to the special constructive feature of the perforated brake discs, noises can occur during braking, which however have no effect on the stability of the brake discs."
--
"The M exhaust system is an important component for ensuring the optimum power and torque as well as engine speed management of a M engine. It also gives each M cars is very special, characteristic sound. This is one of the reasons why all BMW M models came with a large silencer the provides the special muscular sound of power. The twin-chamber stainless-steel exhaust system is dominated by four powerful looking exhaust pipes. The throaty sound can also be sensed in impressive fashion by the outside world."
--
"The rear-axle differential with speed sensing variable M differential with locking action offers the driver a high degree of driving stability and optimum traction primarily when accelerating out of bends or at different coefficients of friction. In the extreme case, the entire drive torque is transferred via the wheel with the better coefficient of friction. If the differential RPM between the two wheels decreases again, the locking torque is reduced. One of the advantages for the driver is that he can move his vehicle away considerably better on surfaces that present very different friction coefficients to both driving wheels."
