Hi thank you all for the warm welcome...Will post pictures as soon as I clean the car ...she has been enduring the harsh winter and she is not looking at her best ...plus she has caught the dreaded “ roof motor disease “ and she will need some attention.... Can anyone suggest who can help with the most economical way of repairing it ?

For the roof I would suggest contacting Mike @Ducklakeview, only problem is that he's in Blackpool. But, for the money he can save you would be worth the trip.

Tony.

Mike is a magician. He fixes and relocates the roof motor without removing the roof. Don't think a roof motor has beaten him yet.
He says it can be done yourself. You just need to be a left-handed contortionist.
As Tony said, well worth a visit to get it sorted.

...and by the way I am in London
But a stones throw... I've had people from Denmark and Germany to get theirs done :)

Blackpool? Where did that come from Tony? Based in Earlestown WA12, 10 sec walk from main line station.

Hi many thanks to you all for reccomending Mike. I have made the 400miles round trip from London in one day few days ago and met the most knowledgeable and charming caracther who without a fuss set himself inside the boot of my Z4 and removed, repaired and re houses the roof motor within an hour.
Yep , i can confirm that Mike is definitely a contortionist as removing the motor requires some proper skills but he definitely know what he is doing.
Not the same can be said for the “ expert technician “at BMW where I took my car few years ago to have the same problem resolved. Four days and £ 1,200 later, look how they have “ expertly “ solved the water ingress problem.
Silicon and electrical tape. Shocking !
If you have the misfortune of experiencing roof motor failure take the trip up north. It is well worth it!
