Hi All,
I am considering an upgrade to the braking system on my Z3M that will require an increase in the wheel size from the existing 17" rims to 18" ones.
Shame to as I have just fitted PS3 tyres!
Any suggestions on the right ones for my car?

Hi,
18" rims are required to clear the brakes.
Don't really care what they look like as long as they clear the braking system.

Regards,

Andy.

The standard style 40 wheels have these dimensions, so you are looking for new wheels with a similar offset - the rears are low so you can have a nice big dish.

There is a wheel offset calculator here - http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator# which will tell you the difference in how new wheels will sit in relation to the originals. Obviously a set with similar offsets would be ideal, but you can play around with the numbers quite a lot.

You can also make more clearance in the wheel with spacers.

Andy, @swamper started an interesting thread over on the coupe forum a while ago regarding BBK kits as you can get Brembo calipers with carriers to fit under the standard wheels using e46 CSL discs. Dave P over there has them fitted to his coupe with standard wheels and they look great and in my opinion would be the best option rather than comprimising the rida and looks with 18" wheels.

If those are a little expensive (!) I notice that in US they buy APEX wheels. They have a group but over on BF.com now.

On my old capri I had some BBS reps made by image wheels in birmingham. They were top quality wheels, I would highly recommend them.

Tyres that thin offer no rim protection at all. Bare that in mind. We see many cracked wheel rims at work which require welded repairs.
